As Wiz has pointed out on another thread, apparently Bristol has been voted the No 1 City to live in the Uk.

Is that so? as many have pointed out there is lots to love about Bristol but also lots thats not so good.

The one thing that really gets my goat (apart from the congestion) is the derelict buildings in Temple Meads (Old George Hotel ?)
covered in scaffold for at least 20 years, why can't anything be done about this, its a total eyesore as soon as visitors hit the City. If funds can be found to regenerate the area this should be a priority (for me) knock it down and create a badly needed green space for that area if need be, but do something.!!

Thats my rant for the day but Whats the one thing you would change about Bristol if you had the power.?

That we get Ashton Vale and the Bristol Arena gets built

Oh also, not to have a Mayor as I don't see what he does.

public transport, rarely drive down because the train is so much more convenient,i can get from home to Bristol tm in just over 2 hours then it takes nearly an hour to get to wesbury, the city council really should be looking at some form of tramlink or metrorail system,or at the very least a cash free oyster card system on the buses which would speed journeys up by at least 30/40%.

Aside from the actual station buildings, at least from the outside, Temple Meads is indeed a right hole.
The only thing that actually made a difference there was the flyover and of course they tool it down and diverted everything past the station that then has to double back on itself at the Bath Bridge.
I know the flyover was only supposed to be a temporary arrangement anyway and it wasn't the prettiest of structures, but it worked unlike most other road schemes in the city.

I agree, and the Royal Mail building behind Temple Meads, another eyesore, and cant be knocked down because it's listed, theres no common sense in that to me.! its an ugly pile of concrete and steel beams..thats the trouble with Bristol, too many sticking their oar in to decisions thats why nothing gets done..
