There's bugger all in it - we've only had 9 clean sheets all season, 4 away and 5 at home. And not a manc goal in sight
So basically gerrard has to get booked tomorrow so he misses spurs and west ham or else he is gonna miss the city game.
Why do I have a nagging feeling about this game... For some reason I think it could be one of those games where we create 30 odd chances, take none and get hit on the counter.. #jitters
As good as Gerrard's been, we played our best football when he was missing so if he picks up a yellow, so be it.
I'm all for Gerrard to not get a yellow via not bothering and letting Sunderland score 3.... Oh wait.... He got yellow doing the same anyway
I think we'll go....... ----------Mignolet------------ Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Flanno -------Gerrard-Hendo------- -----------Coutinho---------- -Sturridge--Suarez--Sterling
it could easily happen. I think the point is this is at anfield and do we think henderson on his own can run about enough against his hometown club to keep them honesty while coutinho plays midfield. I think we can do this and win. Spurs is a different proposition. No harm resting allen cos he flogged a goal someone needs to rest anyway to not play 3 game sin a week and look tired v spurs.
Can't believe I'm hearing the "tired" word because we're playing more than 90 minutes in a week for once in a blue moon.
It shouldn't be a problem but then I look at the games against Spurs, City and Chelsea and wouldn't mind giving certain players a little rest.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has no new injuries to contend with for the visit of Sunderland on Wednesday. In the last three matches Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling have interchanged places in the team with the Brazilian starting in south Wales. Provisional squad: Mignolet, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Flanagan, Gerrard, Allen, Henderson, Sterling, Sturridge, Suarez, Jones, Sakho, Cissokho, Toure, Lucas, Alberto, Coutinho, Aspas, Teixeira, Moses.
I think it's a joke luv, tbh. Nobody ever spoke of footballers being tired until Arsene Whinger used it as an excuse for a poor performance in his early days at Arsenal. Since then everybody has jumped on the bandwagon and it's now treated as though it's a genuine factor. These are young men in the prime of their fitness, with all the best training, diet and lifestyle advice modern society and a ****load of money can give them. God help the poor mites if they had to do a real job to earn their corn. Down the pit for 12 hours a day 360 days a year might make you tired- chasing a ball around for 90 minutes a week (no matter how athletically), shouldn't. Jaded perhaps, but tired? **** me, no. If any of them say they are, I'll volunteer to chase 'em round the pitch with a sharp stick. Tired my arse.
Surely we should draw a distinction between tiredness and preparedness? the problem with mid-week games is that they give you less time to prepare - I'm sure Rodgers is pretty methodical with his game plans and approach to different teams and 6 days to prepare for spurs makes a big difference compared to 2 full days
i think saint... its you run 12km. a serious athlete can run 10km in the morning and come back and run 10km in the afternoon. thats athletes. You simply prepare properly. Do you need to train hard now in the season... no. you do recovery, set out yuor tactics and your fitness comes from the games. our lot have many less games played this season frankly so I just feel rodgers managed it with subs v cardiff and we can easily manage things til the end.
Oh, I agree. That's why I said maybe jaded rather than tired. There are a lot of issues of physical and mental preparedness here- and they're up against other players of similar athletic ability. But I think this is the job of the coaching staff to get them up to speed for each game. I believe they're better off playing, personally, because they need their bodies to get into the correct rhythm for playing twice a week - something we really will have to address next season.
