http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20140324/wenger-we-can-repair-the-damage When Wenger comes out with such explanations, for supporters like me it just makes me want him to leave even more, it's really pathetic that he's now come out with the same excuse after BOTH thrashings to Liverpool and Chelsea just a months apart. Fact is, when such a result happens twice, and in fact 3 times we've been hammered away from home against the top sides, it's not down to a mere f**king 'accident', but the fact he sees it as some sort of 'accident' is very worrying, because it's quite clear these games were not 'accidents', and how to explain our overall **** record against the top sides, were all those games accidents? It's becoming painfully obvious that Wenger isn't going to change his ways or take responsibility, some fans are saying hopefully Wenger realises the errors from these big games and makes amends, but the fact he's coming out with the same **** and saying it's an 'accident' shows otherwise, really hope to God he doesn't sign a new contract, what more proof do some fans need that Wenger isn't going to change?
"We just came out of two convincing results at Bayern Munich and at Tottenham with a very solid defensive performance, so you have to think that was an accident. How do you deal with the accident? You repair them, you repair the damage and you go for the next one. Of course it is back to basics. An accident has happened - that doesn't mean that you are not a good driver. It just means that we have played about 40 games this season and it's not what happened on Saturday that reflects the quality of this team." My God man, please Wenger, go, just go...Back to basics and repair the damage? If that was the case then the 6-0 shouldn't have happened because we should've learnt already and fix the 'accident' after Liverpool destroyed us 5-1, and even after City put 6 past us and could've even have put 7-8 past us! The man is contradicted by his very own words now! When Wenger starts talking **** you know the problems are worse, he's talking utter nonsense here by pretending this Chelsea game was a one off when we all know that that isn't the case, very worrying, the man's going senile.
As for the Munich game, that 1-1 wasn't really all that convincing, we had to win the ****ing game, since when was it seen as something great and 'convincing' when you go into a game having to win to progress to the next round, instead you fail, get a draw, and didn't really look that great in the game, but that is then considered 'convincing'? Amazing though how that 1-1 at Munich has been turned into a great spin job, that 1-1 result meant we got knocked the **** out of Europe's last 16, again for the 3rd consecutive season on the bounce, but hey, very 'convincing' because we managed to get a 1-1, when we needed a win.
There was no accident against Chelsea. Maureen used superior tactics and beat us comfortably. He's just trying to throw a positive spin on a downward spiralling season so that the players and fans can pick themselves up and try and finish off the season well. We are still in the FA cup so this is a real possibility. The league is a real outside bet and only a failure of epic proportions from the other 3 will give us any hope. But realistically the league is gone and 3rd is our best hope. This time I'm not blaming the players or squad, the blame solely goes on Wenger. Our team is good enough to compete with the best but our manager has been exposed by the best this season.
I get the whole try to stay positive thing, but when he talks complete bollocks, it doesn't at all make me positive, but even more pissed. Why not come out like Arteta and say it simply wasn't good enough, we were rubbish, and that was it. For me, such responses from Wenger really means he has to go.
I posted this stat on another thread but it's relevant to this one as well: Away games against other members of the top four over the last five seasons: P15 W1 D1 L13 All of these were 'accidents' too?
Ouch! That is bad!! I been saying for ages that Arsenal could never take the next step until Wenger was booted out, but was called a WUM at first. That 5-3 loss to you guys aswell, RVP has unplayable that day, total beast
Another crazy rant thread lol Wenger gave comments to newspapers after the game and stated that it wasn't good enough and that it wasn't the first time it had happened this season so there was obviously something they needed to work on. So overall I'd say its a pointless thread. Immediately after the game they are all as disappointed as we are and then after a couple of days it's important to be getting past that result and moving on, so some more positive comments come out to keep the team moving forwards. I don't know why this sort of thing surprises you so much tbh.
Too bad we never move on because these results keep happening, something you and Wenger want to ignore. You do know it was just last month we got hammered 5-1, how's that moving on been?
It boils down to tactics. I've heard some people comment on how Ferguson used to set his teams up against Arsenal in such a defensive pattern that it would force us to play in a particular way (can't be bothered to get into the details), which laid the platform for United to control the games against us when they used to play us. Never varied much because our own tactics are so limited and therefore easy to predict. Someone said the other day that Chelsea set up to exploit the space in exactly the same way that Liverpool did when they played us. This indicates that in spite of what the players and or manager might say, we haven't moved on from the thrashings we've received because we keep making the same old errors, in fact its been the same way for as long as I can remember. Until we realise that "moving on" is actually not the solution, we'll continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. It's not simple a case of moving on, but of realising what went wrong and adjusting accordingly in the future.
To be fair though. Munich are a better side than Chelsea, Liverpool or City. We can get results against the best sides. The issue is that we rely on our midfielders to both create and score all our goals in these games. Giroud does'nt make an impact against the best sides and if we fail to score we push higher and higher up the pitch and become vulnerable to the counter.
Anyone can get results against the good sides, even Villa beat Chelsea. For Arsenal though, we've seen that when it comes to consistently getting good results against the top sides, we fail, just look at our recent record against Chelsea, United, City etc.
I'd much rather we, as a club, shut up in this instance. We've been embarrassed yet again so these interviews where we "hope to bounce back"/"learn from our mistakes"/"accidents" etc make us look like tits. One off, sure, no worries. When it's the 3rd or 4th time in a season it's happened I think it'd be a lot better for a bit of silence from the club, extra work at the training ground and an absolute rollicking for everyone involved.
I'm with you on this one, but football has become more political, with Managers feeling the need to add spin to interviews to appease the fans.
Evidently NOT mate . Bayern are 50 games unbeaten. All Im saying is ..the same performance against the likes of Chelsea or City would have given us a result IMO. Yup and I've explained why I think that's the case.
Well we didn't beat Bayern this season, we can bring up the red card incident, but it was never a formality that 11 vs 11= an Arsenal win, maybe we would have won, but we will never know, so I don't see how you can bring up Bayern as an example, we didn't beat them.
