No way should Thai House be on that list. I went with 3 mates, we all ordered different dishes and they all tasted the same.... 'Freshly cooked Thai cuisine'? - they start cooking first thing in the morning ( a mate of mine lives in Welbeck Street and has seen/heard/smelt them at it). He's also seen the pumping truck running a pipe into their kitchen to clear the drains.....
Not sure if this has been posted on this thread already, haven't looked, but that new buffet place in the old Argos got a stinking cleanliness review on the Scores on the Doors. Maggots on the food or summut. Wings International Cuisine it's called, everyone at my work has been getting a semi-on about it, saying it's great bla bla. It's a buffet innit, so you can pile it high. But yea, just so you know - maggots.
Was served still frozen mussles in Fudge,I complained so they were taken away and promptly returned to my table in less than 2mins where they had obviously been microwaved!..needless to say i didnt stick around to risk my surf n turf main.1st place and only restaurant ive ever walked out on.Still wanna go in and strangle the fookers how ill they could have made me had i had gone for a few drinks first.
My Chinese colleague tells me Wok So Ever in Cott is the only place to be. Though technically that's not in Hull, really...
Nice place, small but you can see the food being cooked and I'm not sure where the elderly English gentleman fits into the scheme of things he served us with our drinks and generally potted about, all the other employees are Chinese.
Not in Hull, but not far out, we ate at the Black Horse in Little Weighton last week. I had a steak and ale pie which was quite superb. Took me about three days to eat the ****er, though. My young lady had smoked haddock fishcakes, nicely presented and also a bit lovely (the fishcakes weren't bad either). Recommended. Reasonable prices an' all. And a decent pint of real ale (Great Newsome Sleck Dust was on when we visited). Not a restaurant though, of course.
^^^^^This Wokkas is some of the best Chinese food I've eaten. It's cheap, it's fresh, it's fast and it's tasty. You'll literally have 2 courses done in half an hour. The crispy shredded chilli chicken is lovely!
I must admit, I'm bemused as to how a thread about good restaurants ends up having ****ing Wings mentioned!!! It's a ****ing chav buffet for Christ's sake.
Dog and Duck (pub\restaurant) in Walkington is always good for a Sunday for a decent pub lunch. Do Peroni too, which is always a winner 4 pints in!
I've got friends in Little Weighton that raved about it, so I took the missus for lunch one day and the food wasn't very good. The landlady was very pleasant though and the place is alright, maybe I went on the chefs day off.
The little old man is ace. Always has a funny little remark to make. I'd never had crispy chicken in spicy salt before until I went there - get that as the starter every time I go now.
A few additions to Hull recently: The Old House (Scale Lane), Go Dutch Pancake House (Paragon Sq), Florins (Princes Ave) and Zillis has re-opened in a new location on Chants Ave.
If we are including places in East Yorkshire in general, you can't go wrong with the Chestnut Horse in Kelk if you're a pie man. Best damn pies I've ever had.
