86 combined goals and assists for Suarez, Sturridge and Gerrard is a scary stat. Looking at the runaround they have given to the defences of some of the top six sides already - especially Spurs and Arsenal- doesn't bode well. They still concede far too many though. I think the only way to play them at Anfield with the front two firing is to take the game to them - drive at their centre backs who are suspect. Swansea lost 4-3 in Liverpool's home game having a go.
You can say they've been successful thanks to their cutting edge (I think Coutinho is underappreciated, incidentally; he's really good). No doubt that's true. But part and parcel of that is getting on the front foot and staying there. Surely we have a better chance by trying to press them hard and breaking quickly (though I'd keep our defenders back far enough to avoid suicide.) Even if we defend well they're liable to score a goal or two, so we will need to score two or three ourselves.
Must be in the minority but I actually think we can nick a result up there. If we get at them from kick off, don't let them settle and dominate ( like they did against the goons), we've got enough quality in the side to nick a result.
I'd play Naughton at left back and bring Dawson back in and work with a high a line as possible. Can't see that not working to be honest. I think that will stifle Suarez and Sturridge.
Stifling Suarez is easy enough. Within the first five minutes, everyone needs to take their turn in giving him a little kick. He tries so hard to keep his temper under control, and fair play to him for trying, but bottling that aggression up for this long is not healthy and someone (Sandro) should help him release it.
I don`t want to see Eriksen playing from the left at Klanfield, the lack of cover for Rose and the enormous holes he leaves behind when he ventures forward could see us making Sterling look like Ribery. Sherwood must get the tactics correct, which means no high line and our forward players must close down their defenders from the off. We have to start quickly, match their energy and desire, move the ball around quickly and be clever in the tackle not giving their players any chance to fall over and con free kicks. We are more than capable of getting a result at Klanfield, it is down to Sherwood to select the correct personnel and tactics. Bar Goofy our players are just as good, confidence and momentum is the main difference this season. Above all I hope we get a strong referee.
Best ever ???? Not good enough I'm afraid. His dad supports arsenal ffs!!!!!! Who does he think he is thinking he can stay on as manager just by getting the best results ever ?????? Bloody liberty.
A quick calculation tells me that that is 15 games - less than half a season. Possibly, a tad early to start claiming the best PL record for a Spurs manager?
I can see 'Pool's attacking players making us look like fools. I really do want to be positive, but it's extremely difficult, these days. I just hope we are not humiliated, because that could see us finish 7th, this season, when we should have been pushing for an easy top 4 spot.
How could it not? We've done so much with wrong footed wingers. This game may be the time to try wrong-footed fullbacks, with Rose on the right and Naughton on the left. There's always the chance they'll be laughing too hard to play. What do you think? Lennon and Chadli (does he track back better than Townsend? I'm not sure) on either side, with Eiriksen in the middle, along with Sandro, Bentaleb and Soldado? We scored our first two goals yesterday by harrying defenders, so that's certainly worth doing. I'm surprised teams don't attack fullbacks and CBs more when they're bringing the ball up from the back. I agree we have to match their intensity, and their willingness to sprint the length of the field on the break.
AVB was in charge for 80 games - more than 5 times as many as Sherwood. Yes, he had a reasonable win record, but commited the cardinal sin, in Spurs fans' eyes, of being boring. Once he started to combine his boring style with humiliating defeats, it was always going to be the beginning of the end!...
we need to harry and close down their ball carriers and close down gerrard when he has the ball,to stop him knocking those long defence splitting passes to goofy and the dancing gnome, sturridge
If our 2nd half performance vs Soton can be carried into the Pool game it'll make for an exciting match. I think the "SAS" will possibly prove too much in the end as both Jan and Younes still aren't at 100% but I reckon we'll also cause them some problems. Lloris, Naughton, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Rose Sandro, Sigurdsson Townsend, Eriksen, Chadli Soldado Soldado deserves to keep his spot for the Pool game, Soton was possibly his best performance in a Spurs shirt (still didn't score though ) and I never like seeing a player dropped if they've played well. That also applies to Gylfi, he was brilliant when he came on at CM at half time and the goal was no more than what he deserved. Lennon's been really poor lately and I'd like to see Andros given a start as I think it'd be ideal having a winger who'll run at the defence to cause a few problems. I guessed on the predictions thread 3-2 to Pool but there's every chance we can come away with something providing we copy the 2nd half from Soton and paste it twice for the Pool game
Yes, of course. But that would also apply to a manager who had been in charge for say 3 games, and had won them all. He could statistically claim a 100% win record! but it would hardly be any reliable indication of his managerial abilities overall.
