Because it was introduced by Uefa in 2012. The same rules apply for players if you want to lift the trophy so the photos look uniform. Uefa thought players looked silly wearing the suits and wanted players to wear the CL final embossed shirts too (they wear special tops). Sponsors such as Adidas etc backed the move. It is all down to money, branding and sponsorship. The same rules apply to Europa league finals too. Suspended Tiago had to wear his kit to hold the Europa League trophy in 2012: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=e...2BUEFA%2BEuropa%2FttkSxsOZsiJ%2FTiago;594;432
No it wasn't How did Kroos get away with receiving his CL medal dressed in a track suit last year then? And Hazard and Demba Ba wore suits to get their Europa medals in 2013.
0.37 Demba Ba in suit. 1.59 Hazard in suit [just ahead of Lampard and Terry] - would suggest otherwise! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abuIe_9J2G0
I thought Demba was cup-tied because he had played for Newcastle in Europe so I don't know how he got a winners' medal! The rule applies if players wish to be in Uefa team photos etc on the pitch. Can't open the link... is Demba on the pitch in Uefa team photos in a whistle? I guess the rules can be broken. Here is Kroos in official Bayern kit lifting the CL trophy in 2013. http://www.zimbio.com/pictures/hWko...d v FC Bayern Muenchen/XeX5jZyKmo3/Toni Kroos Can you send me a link of Kroos touching the cup wearing a suit, not saying he didn't but he is not meant to
It's a youtube of the trophy and medal presentation, Hazard and Demba Ba going up the steps in with the team. Yes Demba Ba was cup tied and didn't play a single game in the cl for you - go figure. Here's a photo on the winners podium, both players [in suits[ just in front of Cech. please log in to view this image
For the CL final suspended Mereilles and Ivanovic donned full kit for team photos too: http://bluechampions.com/2012/05/19/chelsea-champions-of-europe/ Does it bother you that they wore full kit too?
You are getting very confused, we signed Demba after we were eliminated from CL in 2012, this is the Europa league final (2013)
None of it 'bothers' me, I find it hilarious, although it seems to be bothering some of you with the change of story, ie Terry 'had to wear shin pads to be able to lift the cup' ' UEFA rule says ...' 'can't touch the cup if you're wearing a suit'. You have to admit it's all really funny.
I know it's the EL 2013 I was responding to your 'rules apply to Europa finals as well' comment. EDIT - I just noticed I put cl instead of el with one of the previous comments -[if you read back a couple of pages I said it correctly, it's all getting very confusing ]
Well they were the rules in 2012 for Tiago and Terry in those finals, according to the newspapers. You think you know better than them, but can you tell me why you know better than the papers??? If you worked for Uefa during that period, I stand corrected! Anyway, let's hope they have changed those silly rules now
Appreciate that you are getting confused, sorry if I did not make it clear, I was referring to the 2012 final (Madrid-Bilbao), where Tiago wears full kit.
They weren't the rules. UEFA can't run competitions by word of mouth, all regulations have to be written down and what to wear to lift a trophy isn't one of them. As for thinking I [or anyone] knows better than the mail - just
If the 'rule' about players not being able to touch the cup wearing a suit is true - what sanctions did UEFA or Chelsea take against Hazard? Why did the rule cover only one final? You probably can't answer them ... anyway thank you for holding a decent discussion without reverting to personal insults
Maybe Uefa were sensible for once and they changed them after all the ridicule Terry got (and Tiago, Ivanovic, Meirelles and Rambo did not get). Maybe they were a directive rather than part of Uefa's constitution. It seems a big coincidence that all five suspended players for the 2012 final were in full kit. In 2013, were Kroos, Dema and Hazard suspended, or merely injured/cup-tied. Rules obviously broken if Demba got a medal as a cup-tied player! Don't see why the Mail would make up a story like that, no reason why they could not have got it wrong equally. Anyway, good discussion, and have a good night watching LFC TV (in your full kit)!!!!
IT WAS NOT A RULE. ****ing hell how many times do you need this explaining to you? They were INSTRUCTED by UEFA to don full kits if they wished to hold the trophy upon presentation.
Apologies Drogs if I said it was a rule. Makes more sense that Uefa instructed Iva, Rambo, Mereilles, Tiago, to don full kit in 2012. And they did not bother in 2013 after the Terry ridicule. Don't think it would bother JT, he would have got in full kit anyway
Don't apologise, it's not hard to mistake. JT himself found the pictures funny but he and others were told by UEFA to wear kits in order to celebrate with the trophy, and seeing as he is the captain he had no choice. Chelsea TV also confirmed this. Notice Hazard is not holding the trophy in the official presentation, so the players were obviously told again. Why would Terry wear it again after the ridicule he got after 2012? JT is a part of our history, a legend and greatest ever defender. I couldn't give a **** if he fluffed his chance to play in a final, it wouldn't be right not to have him holding our first ever CL trophy.
