To be world class, he will have to take of a tournament. There's no point scoring a bunch of goals in qualifying only to choke in the main thing. Pub players can score from the halfway line but that doesn't mean it wasn't goal of the month, never goal of the season though.
You dont need to be a star in world cup or euro finals to be a worldclass player. Zlatan Ibrahimovits is a world class player but has never really shine in a major tournaments. Jari Litmanen was a world class player who never even played in the major tournament (World cup or Euro) same goes to Georges Weah from Liberia who was FIFA:s player of the year 1995 (Litmanen was second runner up) I believe Gareth Bale is a world class player and probably never get a chance to play in a world cup or Euro finals. The list is endless and its proves that you can be a world class player without shining in a world cup or in a Euro finals.
Fair play, I never said it was world class but I still think it's pretty good and not often seen so it deserves a bit of respect in my opinion
Those are players from teams that don't have a chance of winning. Look at messi and ronaldo, they score 40 goals a season and perform when it counts. You'd never say a German, argie or Brazilian was world class if they choked in every tournament. IMO to be world class, you have to make the world XI and Rooney wouldn't do that.
that was most definately a great strike & he meant it...thats a diffrence. for me, I've b\never been a great fan but he is def a good player. Problem is he chokes when he's needed at top level. Dont remember Pele, van bastan etc doing that Still its opinions
World XI.....? Yep, he wont reach there thats a true. Thats a bit high demand. IMO world class is a player who is capable of playing and performing fine on a high level. High level is Champions league(play offs) world cup and Euro finals. Messi was not very good in aworld cup but nobody says he is not worldclass. Many german players have been great in world cup but have not done so well in champions league over the years. Its all so relative.
Long range goals like the one Rooney scored aren't really that rare. Being Rooney or Beckham makes it something bigger than it really is. Here's one scored recently by Swansea under 19s:
This is a proper worldy-type goal...
Well Barton doesn't think he is world class. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26867861 I'd say he's the most overrated footballer in England.
Morgan Amalfitano's goal pisses all over Rooney's goal because he looked while running at full speed and I haven't seen a better goal this year than that When i saw it first time you didn't notice the spot he made while running and most still think it was a mis hit cross ... it wasn't
