Good morning all Firstly, is this forum any good? As an ex 606er I found myself missing the daily dose of Wolves chat even though it became a little tiresome after a few years.. I notice there are not many posts compared to the old 606 but it is close season and this thing is new so I am going to see how it goes... Anyway, enough of the forum stuff. Wolves are at a crossroads I believe right now and I think there will be pressure on Mick this season than any other. A repeat of our defensive malaise and not of our giant killing heroics could see him either move upstairs or down the road all together. I know this sounds dramatic but surely it is obvious from the rhetoric coming from Morgan and Moxey that they want to kick on and establish Wolves as a mid table team. Some big questions are un answered at the moment; 1. Will the board pay the wages to attract the better quality defenders? 2. Will Mick be able to install the confidence and organisation into a settled back four that we missed so badly last season? 3. Will the board look at the manager if things do not work out? 4. Will we see expansive flowing football or will we see dogmatic 4-5-1 formations? 5. Will Kightly ever be the player he was? Anyway, I am boring myself now! UTW
1) Yes. They have to. 2) Confidence yes. Organisation will depend on who he brings in. 3) They never seem to. If we are bottom by at least 3 points at Christmas or something like that though, it must be looked at. 4) You saw expansive flowing football at the end. MM seems to like 4-4-2, and seems to have found a way to make it work at the end. I see him trying it again. 5) If he gets enough game time. He may well not. For me, Jarvis, Hunt and Hammill should all be above him in the pecking order at the moment.
Re the expansive football; I thought our best team last season was when we had Doyler up front on his own with Jarvis left, Hammil right and O'Hara, Milijas and Henry in the middle. I know that's not 4-4-2 but we looked really good like that until Doyle got injured. It would be nice if we could tweak that to a 4-4-2 to bring in Fletch but that depends on who comes in at the back. I think Hunt for Hammil is a given as well. I don't believe all this Doyle can't play in a 4-4-2 or Doyle can't play with Fletch stuff either... Mick played 4-4-2 in the Champ to brilliant effect but the prem is different, because you play less games and because you are chasing a much lower points tally a draw is worth a lot more on the prem than the champ...
Well, we played 4-4-2 first game, and looked good, some towards the end without Doyle. Basically, without Doyle we have to play a 4-4-2 because Fletcher cannot hold the ball up well enough. With him, a very hard decision
Hi, I'm a Newcastle fan that has lived in Wolverhampton for four years now. Usually go to watch Wolves once or twice a season as a neutral. My best mate is a Norwich fan so will go to that match next season. I think this is a massive season for you guys. I haven't seen Wolves linked with many decent players other than O'Hara. Your team needs serious work if you're to stay up this year, as in all likelihood you'll lose Jarvis. I do fear for Wolves this season if your squad isn't strengthened. I hope you stay up next season as it's good for the city and it's also a good local fixture for me along with the likes of Villa, West Brom and Stoke. On another note, I'd happily take Fletcher to Newcastle!
As long as we get o'Hara and 2-3 defensive players i think that should give us enough to have a decent go this season. I don't think the teams coming up are not as strong as last years and if you remember the start of last season, Wolves were playing well but letting in silly late goals throwing away points. All the pundits were saying Wolves would be ok, they were playing good football, but we kept on letting those goals in. Some of our younger players have improved a little over this season as well so i would say we are in a better shape than last season.
