You can't in any way blame the keeper for that mate. A keeper's starting position is always a fair bit forward when the play is in the other half and that lob came out of nowhere.

Haven't seen the goal yet, but no doubt it will be shown incessantly. Rooney is a talented player, but the way the media fawn over him is embarrassing. Someone with his ability should not put in the poor performances that he too often does. It is ridiculous that he is described as world class when he is yet to show up at a World Cup finals.

Sorry Col, a very good player but IMO a long way from world class.

    I rest my case.

3rd in Man Utd all time goal scoring list.
38 England goals and will surely break Charlton'r record if he stays fit.

He hasn't done it at a World Cup yet, due to injury or personal problems (as in the last World Cup) but I believe he will.

Definitely World class ability and I'm pretty sure any team in the World would want him.

It looks to me that once the goalie turned his back on the shot to race dead the bend on it left him for dead.

There's just no way the keeper can be blamed for that. Was it better than Beckham's? Can't decide.
Rooney has a 2nd as Utd go in 2-0 up at half time.

The technique is simply stunning! If, say Zlatan Ibrahimovic had done that, every one would be describing it as World Class. Rooney isn't liked as a person and that is what people judge him on imo.

The meaning of 'world class' is very subjective. I'm sure I could name several players that I believe to be 'world class' and many on here would disagree.
The list of current 'world class' players would be pretty short IMO. A player must have consistently performed at the top end of a top domestic league, champions league and at international level.
Rooney has always been a good player with great potential but IMO he has never fully fulfilled it. I know Utd are a top top team but other top teams haven't exactly tripped over themselves to buy him. His current contract is a joke IMO.
Take Robbie Keane for example, he's played at spuds, Inter, Liverpool, Celtic etc and has scored goals consistently at every level, he's also scored 60 odd goals for a sh•te Irish team at European Champs and World Cups but I wouldn't consider him anywhere near 'world class'.

The goal may be world class. Rooney isn't.

I scored one or two good goals in my time, but it didn't make me anything more than a Sunday league player.

Totally agree, whereas Van Basten, Bergkhamp, there's a couple of world class players!

Neither has Bale and maybe he never will. Still many thinks that he is world class and so is rooney. He is a great striker and his work rate is better than any top striker in the world. Its true that he has his off days but he never looks lazy.

We'll have to agree to disagree mate. I can't agree that Rooney hasn't fulfilled his potential when he's now 3rd on Utd's all time goal scoring list and just 12 goals away from being England's all time leading goal scorer. Add to that his assists and work rate, he is the complete player.
Also, his contract isn't his fault. We'd all take it!
