The Mail story is from a phone call from his 'holiday boat', so it's not contradictory.
 
Is Modric doing that thing you do when you're little where you have to walk along any little wall that you come across, trying to keep your balance and not fall off? :D

In order to try and force through a transfer that would probably double their wages, perhaps?

Would your missus understand if you made quick phone call that could net you millions?
 
It's a phone call that might have taken 5 minutes, though.

No-one knows for certain till the player speaks himself. I just don't think any player would enter into career changing negotiations on honeymoon over a phone, to anyone other than his agent...(his agent is quiet atm!, unless anyone else has seen something?) and would not take the previous days thinking about it while getting married. Timings all wrong here for me.
 
First post here after being a regular on 606 so go easy on me!

I don't want to see Modric go as he was our best player last season and the type of player we need to be building a side around. The problem is we need him to show the form he did last season and I'm concerned that he won't do that if he is sulking about not being able to move. He may have signed a new contract last season so you could say tough luck but, lets face it, in his shoes we'd all be tempted if a side was in for you who had a chance of winning the Premiership and/or Champions League and were offering to treble your wages.

My point is that if we do end up doing our usual thing by cashing in and claiming that you can't keep a player happy then we need to make the most of a bad situation. Too many times we have let players go to the likes of Man Utd without even asking for any of their talented players in return. There has been talk of swap deals involving Essien and Drogba and if we do have to face reality and let Modric go then I'd say to Chelsea you can have him but we want both of those players plus £10m. With that money we could buy Scott Parker and have cash to spare.

Replacing a player coming into his prime with two ageing injury prone players (Drogba and Parker) and another player who seems to have had his fair share of injuries of late (Essien) might be a gamble but if we were lucky with injuries and could get a good season out of the three of them then surely we would have a better chance of making top 4 this season. Modric is a great player but he doesn't score the goals that someone like Nasri, Fabregas or Lampard do for their sides and he doesn't make as many assists as you'd think. What does everyone else think?
 
Well done Mr Levy. A powerful message of intent our our website to all those leeches out there. None of our key players are going anywhere this summer so hands off. For someone who keeps his gob shut well and truly on these issues I salute Daniel for coming out with such a powerful message. Hands off Luka Modric and anyone else.
 
When I hear Luka Modric open his own mouth and say that he's unhappy, and wants to leave immediately, then I might go along with it.
Personally, despite what Modric has supposedly said - I think this is all about money. The ball is in Levy and Harry's court to try and convince him to give it a go for another season.
Also, if Levy wasn't so bloody intransigent over always trying to get top dollar for our dead wood, we could offload several players + of course their wages, and then, be able to pay our top players more.
 
Even if we were to consider a player plus cash deal for Modric, I wouldn't be asking for Drogba or Essien.
Drogba's 33, on massive wages and would be looking for a final pay-day, which he'd probably get at somewhere like Milan and if Chelsea are willing to let Essien go, then his injuries have obviously got the better of him.
His wages would be enormous, too.

In the event that we're forced to let the Croatian go the classless tosspots, I'd demand Sturridge and McEachran plus some serious cash.
 
Spot on PNP in a previous thread i said i would swop Luka for big cash plus Essian but after looking at essians stats last season i agree with you . Lets see how serious they are, Levy should tell chavski " **** or get off the potty"

I was thinking about Sturridge yesterday, is he really any better than Defoe or Pav? It's easier to shine in a team that finishes 14th than a team trying to make the top 4.

I haven't seen enough of McEachran but I understand he is highly rated at Chelsea so I doubt they would want to let him go.
 
If you were a regular on 606 then there is no need to go easy on you because you would be hardened wouldn't you? But seriously Modric missed a sitter against Arsenal but I won't hold that against him as he played well. Mabbutt states that we shouldn't keep a player who is unhappy and he is right if that's the case. I would prefer a straight cash deal of £40 mill minimum and Sturridge. We did not make top 4 and Modric must take his fair share of the blame for the failure.
 
if levy has balls of steel to match his mouth, then props to him and we keep the "fulcrum" of our team.
if he reneges and takes the megabucks that may well be offered, then his integrity is blown, harry prob quits and we lose modric.Our club's intentions are then clear, our ambitions are clear and we revert back whence we came ..mediocrity.

the "lose" of paragraph one is this ? suppose levy forces modders to stay...
he may well become a very sulky boy, lose his enthusiasm, play poorly and actually infect the squad with misery. he may well not be worth having , no matter how good he is.
maybe this has gone too far now and we should actually let a bidding war go full on and take the highest we can get.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has underlined that the North Londoners are not a selling club, as reports continue to link Dimitar Berbatov with a summer exit.

The Bulgarian has enjoyed a tremendous debut campaign in England and has been mooted as a possible transfer target for Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, the striker told Sky Sports News on Saturday that he is determined to help Martin Jol's side break into the Premiership's top four next season, seemingly dismissing talk of a transfer.

In order to further dissuade any potential suitors from making an unwelcome approach, Levy has forcefully emphasised that Spurs are not looking to lose any of their key players as they aim to close the gap on Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Ars*nal.

"In case anyone is under the impression that we are a selling club, I should like to once again stress the policy and position of this club," wrote Levy in his programme notes for Sunday's game with Manchester City.

"We are building for the future - we are not a selling club. We have seen the squad settle, develop and produce results. Now we need to consolidate and look for that next step up.

"I am happy for anyone to judge this club by who we sell and who we don't.

"Our ability to attract and retain top-class players is key to our ambition to compete at the highest level - regularly in Europe and with our sights set on Champions League qualification.

"There is a world of difference between a player who has a short period left on his contract and could look to leave on a free transfer, and a player with a long contract.

"If, as we do, you have players on long contracts and the finances of the club are strong, you have no need to sell."
