Harold Needler wasn't he great sorry if i got your blood pressure up when you read this post Enjoy today's game
Don Robinson was pretty good - apart from the ghastly red bits in the strip, sacking Horton prematurely, and the mess the North Stand became.
The best owner we have ever had is Allam. 20million in first day to fight off liquidation and backing Brucie with £14m for new strike force. Just a shame he is as mad as a box of frogs and is too stubborn to reverse or back down on the name change issue.
The best owner with the worst PR. Robinson did miracles with peanuts but his PR was worth millions compared to the Allams, who have been very badly let down. Harold Needler was indeed a great in the days before PR became important. Adam Pearson, a latter day Don Robinson. Now a wasted talent at a tiny RL club
Bartlett surely. Managed to get us to the Premier League on half the debt, if he hadn't replaced Duffen with Pearson we'd have never left the Premier League and there'd have been no need for the Allams. Think how much more enjoyable 08-09 was compared to this, that is in no small part down to Bartlett and Duffen and their mental idea of not changing the playing name for absolutely no reason at all.
Judgement is probably best done by comparison when took over to leaving. On that basis both Don Robinson and Adam Pearson will be hard to beat (I can only judge back to early 80s). Both lead the team from administration in the bottom division to healthy bank balances in the second tier. They also strongly believed in the fans/community aspect of football. Don Robinson was a genius at getting the locals back to City in the early eighties when City where in a right mess! If he was a City now we would be getting crowds like Sunderland! As for Allam, final judgement cannot be made until he leaves. Quite similar to Bartlett/Duffen at the moment I suppose, however, financial side is currently the worst we have known in the clubs history!
as crazy as it sounds - its not too far from the truth is it I liked Lloyd if only because it was when he joined the club and announced his ambitions i became a regular , regular . His tenure went to **** i know , but for me he was the firt owner that had ambition - regardless how much of it turned to **** later .
How would you know anything about the others. You weren't even born then going on your childish posts.
To be fair, when you look at the facts Bartlett was much better than Allam. I'm surprised nobody is voting for Richard Chetham... And what ever happened to Tom Belton?
I wanted it to be the Allam's but its all ended in tears. Don Robinson, fantastic time to be a City fan but mainly because we were enjoying double promotions whilst in a minority crowd during the eggchasing boom, he wasn't a genius at getting the locals to back City, check out the poor attendances, all made for a stronger supporter/club bond though rarely seen since. Paul Duffen ringing the Premier League bell came close. Adam Pearson still stands above the rest for me.
I am going on my memory and it is 30 years ago but I remember games at BP in the fourth division with gates well over 10,000. Scunny, Port Vale and Bristol Rovers rings a bell and this was with a backdrop of Hull and Rovers winning trophies regularly. Also football in general was struggling with hooliganism and gates nationally were struggling. City's away following was also fantastic back then. You are right about the unity between club and fans back then which is currently shot to pieces. A Robinson type figure now would be building an empire in the East Riding first before conquering the moon!
