    Corners: Everton - 5 Swansea - 12
    Fouls: Everton - 9 Swansea - 6

    KEY BATTLES;

    Coleman vs Davies -

Coleman is strong in the tackle and a determined so and so. He is also a persistent pain in the arse from minute 1 to minute 90. Top scoring defender in the Prem to boot.
I'd consider playing Taylor and Davies for this one (but this time the right way round! ).

    Baines vs Rangel -

Who's going to win the battle of the cavalier full backs? Rangel could use Dyer being passed fit to start.

    Stones and Distin vs Bony-

On paper these 2 have all the tools required to deal with a forward of Bony's ilk.
We saw Laudrup use Dyer's pace up top the last league encounter at Goodison (where we gained a point) and when Monk's swans visited in the FA Cup Vazquez had some success in getting in behind Everton (also using his pace). Perhaps Bony will be subbed on/off around the hour mark?

    Barkley vs Canas.

Barkley has immense talent but is struggling to be as effective as he was earlier in the season since he began to get more attention from the opposition (what do you think Shogs and Tobes?).
Can Canas shackle the young English talent?

    QUOTES

    Garry Monk

"Roberto and I are in touch regularly. He sent me a text before the West Brom game, just a personal message," said Monk. "I always speak to him, not just about management, but as a friend and it is good to have someone like that on the end of the phone.
"I've just asked him to show what a good friend he is and give us the three points."
"Half the players probably don't even know we have never beaten Everton," he said. "When you come near the game you might see it on the television or in the papers but stats-wise players don't read into that.

"If anything they will think they can try and affect it. That was the message in Napoli - to be history makers - and we came within a whisker of doing it out there."

    and on Michu -

"I speak to Michu a lot," Monk said.
"And certainly, I didn't get the impression that he wanted to go when I spoke to him.
"Before I was doing this job, we were injured together and I had a lot of conversations with him.
"He is a very quiet guy, he is reserved and he doesn't say too much, but when he does speak he talks sense.
"And speaking to him now, he wants to do well for the club and he wants to do well for himself.
"He is a goalscorer so he wants to be out there scoring goals. If you'd watched him train this week, you definitely wouldn't be saying he doesn't want to do well for this club."

    Roberto Martinez -

"Clearly this weekend it is a vital game for us in the same way it is for them so you can imagine all those thoughts will be left until after the game," Sky Sports News quotes Martinez as saying.

"I want Swansea to do well. This season their efforts in the Europa League have affected their league points tally but that is absolutely normal and they will be fine at the end of the season.

"The club's philosophy will give them success and they have strong players who have the mentality to get them the results they need."

    Players we share in common

Bob Latchford, Dai Davies, Lee Trundle and Kevin McLeod (sort of!)

    RECENT FORM

    Everton 2 - 1 Cardiff ------------------- Swansea 1 - 2 West Brom
    Arsenal 4 - 1 Everton------------------- Swansea 1 - 1 Crystal Palace
    Everton 1 - 0 West Ham ------------------ Napoli 3 - 1 Swansea
    Chelsea 1 - 0 Everton --------------------- Liverpool 4 - 3 Swansea

    HEAD TO HEAD:

    - Swansea have failed to win any of their 19 league and cup games against Everton, drawing five and losing 14.
    - Four of those draws have come at Goodison Park.
    - Everton have already beaten Swansea twice this season: 2-1 away in the league, and 3-1 at home in the FA Cup fifth round.

    SUMMARY

Everton captain Phil Jagielka is rated at 50-50 to make his return for the visit of Swansea.
The centre-back has missed three matches with a hamstring injury and if he is not considered fit enough John Stones will continue to deputise.
Midfielder Steven Pienaar, who missed last week's win over Cardiff with a knee cartilage problem, is expected to be out for a further two to three weeks.
Meanwhile, striker Michu is set to continue on the comeback trail for Swansea.
Michu returned off the bench after three months out with an ankle injury when Swansea lost at home to West Brom last weekend.
Jonjo Shelvey, who has had hamstring trouble, looks poised to feature at Goodison Park, along with Nathan Dyer, who also missed the Albion clash as he rested a heel injury.

A victory for Swansea at Goodison Park would represent a historical moment, for they have never beaten Everton in any competition, in 19 games.
Yet while there is much riding here for the visitors, who have not won since Garry Monk’s first game in charge as interim manager at the start of February and are languishing close to the relegation zone.
Everton need three points in their quest to secure European football for next season.
    - the 'Telegraph'

Against Cardiff, Deulofeu-Osman-Mirallas played in support of Lukaku. Against Arsenal, Mirallas-Barkley-Pienaar (now injured). Against West Ham the week before it was Deulofeu-Osman-Pienaar. Against Chelsea, Mirallas-Osman-Pienaar. In the cup game against Swansea, Pienaar-Barkley-Mirallas. There is always at least one change and this is because Martinez likes to keep his forward players fresh. If they start a match, they rarely finish it. Against Cardiff, Deulofeu and Mirallas were hauled off after 62 minutes with Osman also replaced before the end. Martinez did the same against Arsenal, and West Ham, and Chelsea. At least Steven Pienaar saw out the full 90 minutes in the cup game against Swansea.

So who will start against Swansea? All will be revealed just after 2pm tomorrow when the team sheets are in. Players pushing hardest for a start are Ross Barkley, who is fresh and gelled well with Lukaku earlier in the campaign, and Aiden McGeady, who made a bright contribution against Cardiff, playing a part in Seamus Coleman’s winner.

been waiting for this on here!

I hope that'll be our team, not fussed whether it's Deulofeu or Mirallas that start but it should definitely be 1 of the 2 rather than both of them starting. McGeady has looked good recently so looking forward to him playing.

How do you see the game panning out Shogs?
Also, where's the best place for visiting Jacks to go for a jar?

I don't see The Swans' getting anything other than a sound beating today. Hope I'm proven wrong, however.

Apparently,Monk and Williams feel that "we need to begin to fight for retention of our status among the game's elite".

    "BEGIN TO FIGHT"?

What the hell, that should be a given, and "begin" with the first kick of the ball in the first game of the season, not now we have our backs to the wall.

    Great thread by the way,Terror.

    Great thread Terror, cheers <cheers>

What can I say? It's so crazy this season that anything could happen! The obvious thing to say is Everton are big favourites and we'll struggle. Plus we've never beaten them <doh>

On the other hand records are there to be broken (just ask Dai)

    I think we may get something today, possibly a 1 - 1.

    My line-up would be:

    Vorm

    Angel
    Chico
    Ash
    Ben

    Leon
    Shelvey
    Pablo

    Dyer
    Routledge

    Bony (or Michu)

It's about time Bony learnt how to control the ball. Sometimes last week it bounced 10 feet in the air off his shins - shocking.

We also need Shelvey and Pablo to rip into Everton through the middle and try to cause some damage. Last week, Canas was like a charity shop and de Guzman was ineffective. So I'm hoping for a big improvement in the middle.

And out wide, hopefully Dyer is on fire and can cause some panic in the Everton defence (unlike Lamas, who just causes panic in our defence.

Although Everton have won they're last 5 home games , they won't make 6. A resounding win is the only thing that will be on the players minds , no matter who plays . A Swan win by 2 or 3 goals.

    Great thread Terror.

Swap Ash for Chico and that would be my team Dragon, unless jonjo is fit then swap him with Canas.

It will be interesting to see if NGog or Lita are on the bench. If NGog isn't on the bench it makes you wonder why the hell we signed him.

    I'm going for a draw <ok>

    EEK I forgot about Michu!!!

Can we go for Pablo AND Michu in the "hole" position behind Bony? We'd have 12 players on the pitch, but we have to play against 12 men whenever Mike Dean is ref so fair's fair init like.

Agree. I'm expecting a big performance today, if the A team play anything like the 'B' team played in the cup game we'll have a great shout of getting something.

Arsenal getting crushed by Chelsea . Chamberlian made one of the saves of the season for Arsenal , unfortunately he wasn't the keeper . Couple of questions , Chamberlain handled the ball but they sent Gibbs off . Is this a reviewable red card for Gibbs and if so is there enough time to review it before our game this week ?Gibbs is an integral part of Arsenal's defence , Chamberlain is lucky to play a part in most games

Must say the Mariner has made the biggest cock up this season. Chainberlain even a metioned to the ref and he still sends gibbs off what a numpty. Arsenal look VERY poor all over the pitch.

Fair play mind, it was a cracking save by Chaimberlain.

Oh how I hope they play like this in midweek. :)
