I hated writing that title and Godders will need to be put on tranquillisers :) Apparently RK sees the Academy as intellectual property...he has seen our reputation growing worldwide and wants to earn money from it....other than producing players for sale. Before the news of him joining Southampton had broken, he met a man who had bought a Swiss side who mentioned building an academy using Southampton as a model. He says next time they meet he'll ask for a cheque. He sees a market for providing advice in places like North America and Africa. I must assume he knows more about this market than we do. Not sure it will be a big earner, but it will increase our profile abroad.

Apart from the eurgh factor in that word, it sounds like a great idea, as long as we get first dibs on any gems produced by the clubs we sell advice to. <devil>

I presume he means we would get paid for passing on advice (or perhaps even help) in setting up an academy...can't see it as a big earner myself. However, he seems to see it as promoting our uniqueness.

The word monetise is dreadful because it actually sounds like you are putting money in rather than getting some out. Better to make clear that you want to earn money from something. I suspect that KL is a communicator and sometimes brings ideas out into the big wide world when they are half-formed. We are going to hear a lot of this stuff...hopefully some ideas bear fruit.

MLS franchises would seem the obvious choice to sell this to. I can't imagine this sort of thing would be terribly expensive to run, and if it brings in a bit of wedge, then it can only be a good thing for Saints.

He's just doing the usual North-American thing of taking a noun and turning it into a verb. Yes, it is awful, but that's the way the language is going. I'll never consciously promote it, but 350 million USA/Canadians beats 63 million people from the UK, and most of the UK under-30s are talking that way in any case. The other ones are talking with the Australian rising inflection, so I admit defeat.

It's like an academy consultancy. Something like that.

Consultancy fees. Doesn't sound unreasonable - there's a great detail of work that goes into the academy (budgeting, forecasting, manpower etc) so this seeems reasonable to me

Great. Send someone to a foreign club for a week, charge them 20k for standing around pointing out the bleeding obvious. Consultancy rocks.

All part of the desire to increase the commercial opportunities for SFC. If RK succeeds where Nicola didn't, it may suggest not that Nicola failed, but he tried to take too much on himself. Get the right people in, trust them and together achieve more.

Talks a good game this guy, likes the sound of his own voice. Hopefully other clubs don't like ringing him.

Suspect he's a man you only call if you have an hour to spend, have been to the loo and have a cup of tea to hand. :)

I think the word you're struggling for here is that he's verbing nouns.

When I worked for IBM, I was on a conference call and, without irony, a septic on the call said that we were working on "solutioning" a problem. I loved his verbing efforts but felt that "solving" was already capable of expressing the thought. I kept schtum as I enjoyed having my job at the time.

Vin (striving to verb a noun a day)

Considering an academy can bring through players worth millions (not just for the selling but the value to their own club), selling the blueprint to such a venture is worth tensor millions...

However, didn't we base our academy on someone else's??

PS Happy there has been a lack of zeds above (icize)

Nope. We've always had the model of bringing players through and giving them a chance. The focus has just got a bit better these days.
