Our FA Cup Semi-Final against Sheffield United at Wembley on Sunday 13th April will now kick-off at 4.07pm. As a mark of respect for those who lost their lives as a result of the Hillsborough stadium disaster in April 1989, the FA Cup Semi-Finals, along with all Premier League, Football League, and Football Conference matches taking place on the weekend of 12/13 April will kick-off seven minutes later than originally scheduled. The match at which the disaster took place, the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on 15 April 1989, was ended six minutes after kick-off, at 3:06pm. The minute before kick-off (3:06pm to 3:07pm) will see a period of silence observed at all stadia.
Good idea. I wont be surprised, or bothered for that matter, if the 1 mins silence turns into 1 mins clapping as it seems to do these days.
99.9% about those poor people who died on that awful day, but should also be an ongoing reminder about what a group of contemptible c**ts SY police were not only that day but for the following 25 year cover up too.
What happened to mark 25 years of the Bradford fire? Did Liverpool do anything for 25 years after Heysel? Not digging, curious.
I think Liverpool did do something 25 years after Heysel, actually. There's even a plaque for it at Anfield, commemorating the Juve fans. As a fan of Italian football I thought you'd know that.
I really hope it doesn't develop into an applause. What exactly is there to applaud about such a tragedy.
I've had personal issues with some of the minute silences, but I'm actually glad that I can take just one minute out our big day to offer my sympathy and respect to the poor souls and their families by simply standing quietly. They were football fans like you and I. That shouldn't be a death sentence. There but for the grace of God. RIP
Yes, I know there's a plaque. There's a massive Hillsborough memorial there too. So if they do this at Wembley then it's not parity is it? And what do you mean 'they did do something actually'? I didn't say they didnt do anything. I asked what they did.
Wendies are at home to Blackburn that day. I wonder if Blackburn fans will follow our righteous lead and use it as an excuse to attack the police in the concourse at half time?
I wonder if SYP will use the occasion to wade into supporters stood on the concourse with truncheons and swagger sticks ?
Probably if they're the target of dogs abuse and getting all manner of **** thrown at them. Wouldn't you?
correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you celebrating their life instead of mourning their death? I know which one I'd prefer to do.
Silence for this I think. Clapping should be reserved for when we are applauding the achievements of past professionals or heroes etc.
