yes as long as we get goal draw in Paris or don't lose by more than 1 goal margin. Otherwise 2nd leg at home is infact a curse.
Pretty decent draw. Mid range side in the context of who was left. PSG are quality but play average sides most weeks and don't have a lot of experience at this end of the tournament. This is a winnable tie. United are as good as out. Funny how Barca, Real, Bayern and PSG were all kept apart.
If the opposition is likely to score, the 2nd leg at home advantage is a myth, as there comes a point where every goal the away team score is effectively worth double, with the home manager having no opportunity to make the necessary adjustments. I always prefer to play 2nd leg away. Good draw though - PSG aren't far so not overly stressful re the travel
Aren't they slightly messed up by the fact that the 2nd round is geared towards giving better teams the home tie second?
Next we need to hope for playing the first game on Tues and the 2nd on Wed rather than the other way which means 3 games in 6 days.
statistics can lie, or can obscure the truth. For example, these stats don't take into account the attacking potency of the away team on the second leg.
I guess they are slightly but they are over 50 years in all European competitions and most of those years there was no seeding and no groups. Our record is even more skewed to favour us doing better when at home 2nd. 71.2%
I guess I'm biased but a lot of our most memorable European nights have always been against the odds victories away from home (bar vs Barca in 05) and we have had a lot of disappointment at home in the 2nd leg. Barca back in 2012 where it didn't really matter that they scored twice as one goal would have put us through, and when we scored again, they effectively needed two goals. Situation was reversed against Galatasary this year where even after we had scored one it had little importance to them as they needed to score anyway - if they had a actually bothered to turn up, we might have struggled. Or how about the win against Arsenal back in '03, with Henry scoring not really mattering as we needed to score anyway and then Bridge scoring effectively killing the game with Arsenal needing to score two. Or what about Dennis Wise at the San Siro?
