Wise Men Say...........

Not sure what all that means mate, I suspect you're saying that Norwich fans can count their wins, this season, on the fingers of one hand <ok>

MARCOS Alonso believes a four-point haul from back-to-back relegation showdowns would be an acceptable return for Sunderland.

Sunderland’s inability to find a breakthrough against Crystal Palace last weekend looked to be a huge missed opportunity in the fight for survival, with three points now separating the Black Cats from the safety mark.

But Gus Poyet’s side have another chance to register a crucial victory against one of their drop rivals on Saturday when they travel to Norwich City, looking to move within a solitary point of the Canaries, who have played three games more.

And on-loan Fiorentina left-back Alonso admits Sunderland would have taken a total of four points before the two games, to get their survival quest back on track.

Alonso told the Gazette: “If we can win at Norwich City, the draw against Crystal Palace will look much better.

“If you’d told us we would get four points from the next two games before Palace, I don’t think that would have been bad.”

Sunderland’s stalemate against Palace was the fifth time this season they have drawn a blank against a bottom half side at the Stadium of Light, with the Black Cats netting just 13 times at home in the Premier League – the same tally managed by Norwich at Carrow Road.

Playing on the counter-attack away from home seems to have suited Sunderland more under Poyet after a six game unbeaten run on the road was ended at Arsenal last month.

Alonso insists he would still prefer to play at home, but the defender admits that Poyet’s style is perhaps better suited to Sunderland’s travels.

“I always prefer to play at home with our fans. For me, there is no added pressure in that,” added the 23-year-old.

“They can be a bit nervous sometimes because we are where we are, and it’s not easy. That’s normal.

“But we seem to have been playing better away from home because the games are more open.

“We needed a goal against Palace, but we will go for it on Saturday.

“It’s important what the other teams are doing.

“But we need to focus on ourselves, and if we do that, then I’m sure we’ll stay up.”

turner is to return for them and we know how slow he is turning ,hes about as mobile as oshea is ,nathan redmond is a threat as he is quick and likes to run at defenders ,johnson and snodgrass are not bad either ,if wolfswinkle plays it will be a bonus as he is like our forwards he cannot score but if hooper plays instead he needs watching.

Draw at home aren't good enough, we should know, Only we don't have their last 4 games, Norwich know they need to be a bit more attacking at home to stay up and will see us as the perfect game to start. I think it will be much more open than their usual home games as they have no choice now.

they have dominated several sides at carrow road this season and suffered the same failings as us in front of goal ,against spurs a couple of games ago if they had won by three clear goals it would have been deserved they do create a lot of chances ,at this point i think we will have to be at our best for this one ,the home crowd are very vocal and will be up for this i can assure you,the game has been sold out for weeks

It always makes me laugh when our opposition is built up to be something better than what they are.
Norwich have put in some stinking performances, this season, of which last week was typical.

They've scored less goals than us despite having had 3 more opportunities, and around half of what we've scored over the last 8 games.
Yet some people seem to believe they're better in attack than Sunderland.

Norwich are in trouble because they're not very good and have won 1 of their last 8 in the league.

I'm looking forward to going to Norwich because I believe we'll win <ok>

People from Norwich get very confused where one finger stops and the next one starts, it's highly unlikely they're keeping count on their hands.

Striker to miss game at Carrow Road with ankle problem.
Head coach Gus Poyet expects Steven Fletcher to miss this weekend’s game at Norwich.
I think next week we’ll have a little bit more of an idea. Barring a miracle I would say he won’t be available
- Poyet on Fletcher injury
Fletcher was forced off at half time against Crystal Palace last weekend after twisting his ankle in the 0-0 draw at the Stadium of Light.
Poyet is unlikely to risk the Scottish striker on Saturday and will take another look at the situation next week.
“He twisted his ankle; even if it’s swollen or not it doesn’t mean it will be better or worse,” he said.
“Just because it’s happened in the past [with Fletcher’s previous ankle injury] we’re paying extra attention.

Gus Poyet has told Sunderland to treat each remaining Premier League games as their last - starting at Norwich on Saturday.

Sunderland go to Carrow Road in the bottom three but with at least two games in hand on all their relegation rivals.

The first of those is against a Norwich side just four points ahead and, whatever happens between now and May, Poyet wants his players to emerge from the run-in with no regrets.

He said: "I think this is a crucial game for both teams. Every single game is crucial.

"The idea is to take every game as the last one - a cup final, people call it - you need to win this one to stay up.

"There are 10 teams at the bottom, If every single player gave everything from now to the end of the season, still three teams will go down.

"So the main thing is to be yourself, play the way you play, accept responsibility and go and give everything. Then, there are no regrets."

Sunderland are without a league win since beating Newcastle 3-0 in the north-east derby on February 1.

He`s never been right since he got crocked in the international (can`t remember when that was?)

I`m getting rather concerned about his future or, whether he`s even going to have one. Seems to have regained his fitness and, as soon as he plays, goes backwards again. Don`t know what to think really.
