Yes but we are ahead of Germany and Italy this season, so the gap is actually increasing. You get plenty of points for teams getting to the last 16 which all 4 of ours did. There is very little chance of Italy catching us any time soon!!!

Liverpool where not a top side in 2005, the same as Wigan were not a top side in England when they won last years FA Cup. The Champions League is a knockout tournament, and sides can ride there luck, or perform above there normal level on the odd night. Or get a few dodgy refereeing decisions, like a goal that didn't cross the line, or there captain diving and being awarded a penalty in the final. You also have to factor in the draw, and that every team has to take a completely different route to the final, playing different opposition. The league is a true reflection of how good a team actually is, as it shows how consistent a team is over 38 games, playing home and away against every side, so everything is equal for every team
So you are basing on their league position then. They had some dodgy players but they also had players like Gerrard, Alonso, Hypia and Cara. They made 2 finals in 3 years and performed consistently over that period. It might be a KO comp but they are over 2 legs bar the final and you have to make the KO stages in the first place. Are you suggesting that any CL win is a fluke? It's not really the FA cup is it?
