    It's Platini's fault.

In between writing my post and your answer, I went off and looked for the answer. Apparently, since December of last year he has had a slight change of mind. He was against the introduction of technology. He said, and I quote, I'm 57 and I'm not going to change. His opinion was set because the technology cost to much to install across Europe for incidents that would occur once every 40 years [his words]. Half a season of the PL has proven the worth of Hawk-Eye already, because it settles arguments over goals and results that need not take place, and so the team that patently scores most goals wins a match. Something we couldn't be utterly 100% sure of before, because of incorrect goalline decisions by officials. Incidentally, I would say Platini's blinkered attitude automatically disqualifies him from any higher management post. However, as I said, he has had a slight change of mind, and may consider introducing it into Euro 2016.

I used to greatly admire Platini as a player, but as an administrator he's an absolute twerp.

RVP should have been booked for kicking the ball away, as the Olypiakos player was.

Yeah you are right. I don't know why being a (good) professional footballer qualifies someone to administrate an international sports body. I used to be anti-GLT, but I changed my mind when I realised I was being stupid. When someone says "nothing will make me change my mind", both eyebrows should instantly hit the ceiling, it's a dreadful attitude.

Oh well, we get to see Man United get torn to shreds by one of Europe's elite. How fun. :D

Not that this will happen, but how aggrieved would Liverpool fans be if they finished fourth but missed out because Man U won the competition...

Benfica time. Is there a more prolific CB partnership than Luisao and Garay anywhere in the world?

Probably avoiding the Benfica manager. He really does have the mental age of a child a lot of the time.

I asked my mate, who is a Spurs STH, and he says the following have knocks:

Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Chiriches, Kaboul, Dembele, Lamela, Paulinho, Adebayor.

What we need is for Spurs to take it to extra time, and then lose.
