Not a western fan Bluff? The series is based on the Elmore Leonard's novels Pronto and Riding the Rap, I've read and enjoyed Rum Punch so thought this may be worth a look.

Hate that, will probably get stick for posting that but that's me and comedy again.

There are a lot of overhyped westerns, not many stick out as great for me The Proposition was good but that's set in Australia there's talk of an adaptation of Cities of the Plain by Cormack McCarthy (I'm banging on about him a lot at the moment) which is part of a trilogy of books it would be great if they did them all which would mean a remake of All the Pretty Horses if they got the right people to do it then it could bring Westerns back to modern cinema and with the subject matter written by McCarthy it would provide the edge needed to capture a new audience.

No thinking of giving it a go, it has a good rating and I liked the Elmore Leonard book I read.

Been a few decent Western shows and films recently imo.
Deadwood was decent, and the True Grit remake with Jeff Bridges was very well made I think.
The classic Westerns are good too, El Dorado, Shane etc
Plus I like Unforgiven and Young Guns :)

All not bad but when was the last great Western? As I said it would be The Proposition for me other than that I enjoyed Jessie James but it's a rubbish genre that has great potential. No Country for Old Men is the closest we've come to a great Western in many years.

Agree with you there. It has been abused with some bad movies, the Western era.
I am waiting for someone to do a REAL Tv show about the Lincoln County Wars. I have researched them extensively and it was such an interesting and action packed period of history and the closest thing we have had is Young Guns, which was Hollywoodized MTVafied and silly (but still watchable).
The West really WAS wild back then, law enforcement was piss poor and inefficient, and they should do a proper show about the LCW, not just focusing on Kid Atrim (aka Billy the Kid), he wasnt even a major leader in the war until its final years, but the whole shebang (Jesse Evans, Dick Brewer, John Tunstall).

I would love it , but alas, we get duff tale after duff tale set in Western times. :(

Latest ep of TWD was brilliant, dark as hell but totally gripping.

It's the Line of Duty finale tonight on BBC2, if you haven't seen this series (second one) do yourself a favour and get on iplayer and watch it from the start. Excellent telleh.

It really is very good, mainly because you can't trust any of the characters (it's a police procedural/conspiracy thriller for those who don't know) and the writers are pretty merciless when it comes to sudden twists and turns in the plot and will just pull the rug from under you, so exactly the way you'd want them to handle a fairly well worn genre. The angle they use for the story is also very original. Acting also top notch.
