Lamps was a very good player especially during Jose's first time at Chelsea. Still has the odd performance in him
I dont think anyone could doubt Lampards attacking ability during 2004-2010, he was immense for us. Got a lot of kudos from foreign players and managers in other leagues too. The old Gerrard and Lampard comparison used to do my head in, they are a different type of player. Gerrard was tireless and had better vision than Lampard, Gerrard seemed to be everywhere. Lampard was better at executing passes and runs deep from midfield, and had an awesome long range shot. I would begrudgingly say Gerrard probably was more of a complete player in terms of over all skill, but there was no better out right attacking midfielder in the PL between 04-10 than Frank. His goal and assist tally are excellent for a CM.
He was very good in his day Lampard, you talk about his long range shooting but Gerrards had plenty of screamers in his time as well
Aye he has, the 06 FA cup final sticks out. Lampard was the best at it imo though Though I may be biased
Vidic was a much better defender than Rio. The only thing Rio had on him was pace. Vidic read the game better, he was a better tackler, he was better in the air, he was braver, he also had a lot more aggression, he could never be bullied. Vidic was the one defender who could easily deal with Drogba, hence why Drogba only ever scored 2 goals against us in his 8 years at Chelsea, so your talking close to 20 matches, and one of those was miles offside. Drogba just couldn't out muscle him in the way he used to all other PL defenders. So for me Vidic was the best defender of his generation, I personally wouldn't swap him for any other defender in the world at his best. Rio was a world class defender, and probably the perfect partner for Vidic, but I always felt our defence could cope without Rio, but not Vidic. Rio had this tendency to switch off at times, and he needed Vidic alongside him to keep him focused
Nah KS. Vidic needed Rio not the other way around. Gung Ho defenders like Vidic, Terry etc need a footballing defender alongside them to prosper. Someone who can cover their obvious weaknesses such as pace. defending is about position now and not last ditch tackles. Last ditch tackles are a sign of a poor defender imo and the rough and tumble type of defender is a dead art. Rio could perform the role of the enforcer and as the ball playing defender. He was quick and his position was brilliant. How often was he in the right place at the right time? Vidic was the muscle and Rio the brains ().

Was he? I only saw bits and bobs of the game, lost interest when Chelsea took the lead From what I saw Galatassary weren't the greatest threat, can only beat whats in front of you though I suppose
Get a clue man!!! How are last ditch tackles the sign of a poor defender, it may have been another defenders fault that that player got through, or a moment of genius from a player like Ronaldo or Messi that enabled them to shake their man, causing Vidic/Terry or whoever to make a last ditch tackle. You are right in that defenders that lack pace prosper with a ball playing defender beside them to cover their lack of pace (hence why Vidic-Rio and Terry-Carvalho were great partnerships), but a ball playing defender also needs someone like Vidic or Terry to cover their asses and make last ditch tackles when they are caught out of position or f**k up a pass.
I said good. He wasn't outstanding but didn't do much wrong, he was good. PS; I only watched the first hour though. watched the first three episodes of Arrow instead then.
