I knew that times were hard - but I didn't fully appreciate the gravity of the situation !

    until .............

I returned to my car today - to find that some poor soul was so hard up that they needed to STEAL the rubber blade insert from my rear screen wiper of my car. I also found that there had been an attempt to steal my rear number plate - I fear a 'ghost' plate somewhere and some 'real' speeding/ parking tickets coming my way.

I was recently introduced to a mutual acquaintance whose Christian name was Adam. He was of Polish extract and had a surname that I was having difficulty in pronouncing.

Wishing to afford him some courtesy, I politely asked "how do you say your name?" He replied
    " A-dum." <doh>

ok I'm going to start ranting, so look away now...

They are trying to ban the alternative to smoking tobacco in public places over in Wales. The reason is not for health but because of some so called potential to encourage people to smoke tobacco. Seriously you couldn't make it up, do these people have a clue what they are talking about or is it just their bored and got sod all else to do with their time. There is no evidence that E-Cigarettes have encouraged its product users to turn to tobacco, for the health of the Nation quite the opposite. I believe there are something like 1.3 million E-Cigarette users in the UK, so ban it and what do you think a percentage of those people will do, they will go back to smoking tobacco because there will be no incentive not to do so in the eyes of this smoker. This is a backward step, what is it with the busybodies there is just no stopping them. I've thought about E-Cigarettes and considered the benefits of switching, just a brief passing thought. But if E-Cigarettes are banned in public places then in my mind they will remain for ever that passing thought. You just can never win with the health brigade but you know what, on this occasion I believe they are about to shoot themselves in the foot big style. Ban E-Cigarette's in a public place and i will never consider switching, not that i intend on moving to Wales. So the anti brigade always bang on about health benefits, so give me those health benefits at the attempt of this new legislation now. You know the most laughable bit, if E-Cigarettes are banned in public spaces then the users of the products will have to use the same shelters/areas as tobacco smokers, so would this policy itself not be encouraging what it claims it is discouraging.

Today I was cutting a hedge for a a friend who is presently physically incapacitated. The hedge is at the front of the property and forms a border adjacent to the road. I had an extension lead on the edge of the path and was happily clipping away when a car drew up and stopped beside where the hedge cutters plug was plugged into the extension.

The driver then got a bucket of soapy water and a sponge and started to clean the car - placing the bucket right next to the extension lead connection.

I couldn't believe that this idiot could contemplate such an idea. I stopped what I was doing and moved the extension well away from the bucket - I couldn't help but to say that I didn't fancy getting electrocuted.......... I got no reaction - perhaps the idiot needed a few volts passing through him to wake up his senses.

Think it will be way longer than that for men to become selective about their sexual partners ..... this would involve no poor decisions whilst drinking ;)

After last week ends arrests of three Gillingham fans for racism, I thought you'd might like to know that there are other countries where the judiciary are a whole lot more zealous in their oppression of the public. Where you get stamped on from a very young age.

....trust me - you couldn't make it up !

A month worth everyone remembering, because October 2014 is the planned date for the toll's to be automated at the Dartford Crossing - great no more queues you may think.

Not so great in my opinion, the crossing was paid for many, many years ago but there was no way this nice little money spinner was ever going to be removed, especially with the tax cut of it the government would receive.

At £2 a throw just to cross your car one way (£4 return) you can just watch the thousands of cars daily crossing in their droves.

Once the tolls go automated, you just know the price will spiral, no more looking around for coins, your bank details will do.

'Le Crossing' the modern day Dick Turpin in the UK.

unless, of course they can get some benefit or tax out of it.

It looks like that, by being a clean living sort of bloke (don't all laugh), I am depriving the Government vital funds to get us out of this recession...sorry everybody - I just knew it was MY fault.

Yesterday I went into a cafe. One of the first things I saw was an open milk bottle on a work surface. I could tell that the bottle was no more than half full.( or had been 'used' to the point that it was half empty ). The top from the bottle was nowhere to be seen !

At that moment in time the manageress (I specifically knew she owned the business ) was at a far point from the milk bottle - cleaning a spillage on the floor.

I asked the woman for a cup of tea - whereupon she got up and poured a cup - and then used the milk from the aforementioned bottle. I wasn't comfortable with this and asked why the bottle hadn't been in the 'fridge. She claimed that it had only just been taken out. I stated that I had no way of knowing if that was true - and then asked why was there no top on the bottle. Before she could answer I added - and where is the top ?If the bottle has only 'just' been taken out surely the top would still be on it - or at very least in very close proximity. She said that she didn't put the bottle in the fridge because she expected to use the milk again very soon. I asked if that was the reason why she didn't replace the top on the bottle ? I pointed out that this practise wasn't very hygienic. It's not something that I expected she would do in her own home.

She then had the audacity to tell me that if I didn't stop complaining she would get cross. I told her that she was breaking basic hygiene regulations and it is a wonder that she has any customers - if she risks their health. This businesswoman then displayed all her charm and sales technique by telling me that nobody was forcing me to drink her milk................she was right...............and I duly walked out.

brb if I had to drink in that pub in Orient, I probably would start to smoke - for the sake of my health - and quite honestly after the conditions that we experienced, I really don't know why I should be so fussy about the milk in my tea - but didn't people drink ale because the purity of the water couldn't be trusted. - and will we be crying into our beer today (3rd., May) ?
