I expect a few - no others just sunderland - fair enough - lots will live away and follow, or even actively go to watch footy where they live? Mine is Ipswich as you know. Born Sunlan, moved to Lowestoft when 5 with dads work, first team i saw live was ipswich, always sunlan though, moved back at 13, first match at roker, 1-1 with dad in the family enclosure v bournemouth. Who is your second team if any? England doesnt count
Glasgow Rangers. A family friend took me to a game at Ibrox when I was a young lad, was kind of hooked from then on. Been to a few Old Firm games now & although the matches are quite often poor the atmosphere is intense as ****. Never felt owt like it at a match.
Leicester. My local team from where ive grown up, all of my mates are Leicester fans. The sad thing is i see them play more than Sunderland
Košice lived there for a few years so I went to a few matches ... they even got into the Champions League in the late 90's played Man Utd (lost both home and away games ), so I usually keep an eye on them to see if they can reach those giddy heights once again
Rangers for me as well, I know some cracking lads who follow them and I've always been made to feel welcome whenever I get to one of their games. Really hope Safc organise a friendly up there soon.
Darlo and SPAL (nearest Italian lower league team to where I live, used to go home and away till my bairn was born).
Rangers Half my family is from west glasgow Last went to see them in div 3 against the mighty montrose,44k there
Carlisle United - used to live out that way as a kid and I used to go and watch is play there in the old Texaco Cup which was a pre season event for NE teams. I've stuck with them ever since.
Aberdeen. Been living there for 5years now. Kinra slowly evolved. Having a good spell atm. Which certainly helps. And being up here there is no option for being a hun. (sorry guys) Stand Free!
Albion Rovers. I noticed a few years ago that their crowd was about 240 so they needed all the help they could get.
Man United. Watching them get beat off Southampton in the '76 FA Cup Final. Despite the result they played some of the best football I'd seen at the time. Then, after beating Liverpool the following year, they were drawn against Oporto (As it was) in the Cup Winners Cup. Beaten 0-4 away they played some of the most breath-taking attacking football I'd ever seen at OT. One at the back and 9 up front, it appeared. They won 5-2. I never got hooked on going to matches after my uncle took me to a mid-week cup game, I think. Sat up in the stands at Roker Park, on a wet Wednesday, the game was poor and I can neither remember the score or the opposition. Shame.
Celtic - we were on holiday up in Scotland when I was about 13 (I think). My dad had got hold of 2 tickets to the old firm (Late 80's I was 13) and I went to the match in the home end at Celtic Park - it ended 1-1 (I think - memory isn;t what it used to be!!) but the whole place gripped me. I love our derby's with the mags but this was a level above for atmosphere and animosity.
Gateshead Just curious, but do any of you Gateshead born and bred Sunderland fans ever get down to the international Stadium to watch The Heed.
A little surprised that no-one (so far) has stated any kind of affiliation to Norwich. Are you all too young to remember the 'friendship' created between the two clubs in the mid 80's?
