A lot of good points in these posts. Being a spurs fan does feel a bit mute this year, but as others have said, we are still 5th even after having what we all feel is a bad season and not ever really playing that well or having a team that seems to gel. I would never have predicted Liverpool's rise this season, nor ManUs big fall. I don't know how much that Everton squad cost, but I imagine a lot less than ours and they seem to play a lot better than us, which shows the importance of the manager. It is weird to be this grumpy despite being in 5th with our resources, and I think a lot of that morale issue is the performance in the cups which I blame on Sherwood (although he was my choice after AVB left), I was also quite up for AVB. Therefore the only think I know is that I should not be in charge of appointments. Totally agree with points above about too many players in same positions of similar quality, but I was optomistic at start of season as they all seemed good on paper. I want Levy to stay and some explanation for why Lamela has been crook for so long. Luck does seem to be the best solution we have.
Times change. The game would be unrecognisable to him - and Busby, Shankly and the like. Motivating millionaires from all parts of the globe is something Bill Nick never had to consider.
That's exactly right. Money has changed the way everyone - players, managers, fans - look at the game. In the 60s and 70s, top players were pretty much all paid the same (ie a relative pittance, when compared with today's players). The focus was very much on the club and its fans. Today, the focus is on the money.
