One of the favourites yes, but Chelsea & City will be the favourites no matter who wins it this year. I think a lot of our fans are sensible enough to realise that this year there as not been 1 standout consistent team which has meant we've had a chance up until now of winning the league. But next year probably won't be quite so open with Mourinho/Pelligrini both having 1 season with their new teams under their belt. We all said at the start, this year would be best chance at anything because of the upheaval with other top clubs, next year is going to be very different.
so... the 6. LB is obvious CM for box to box is obvious ST reserve is obvious to me winger seems to be Rodgers wish.. but someone to play right across line RB seems prudent too then its a choice. GK? would you? i would if rodgers sells reina. Cb? maybe maybe not depending o nwhat happens. holding player... maybe.. In the end look at the bench v utd moses and aspas are only glaring issues but we all know we've a rb playing lb and mr cissohko sitting on bench. I don't think that 6 i've mentioned are bad if you put CL into our season. If nothing else the carling cup needs a reserve team built for it thats not just a throw away team... ilori, alerto, suso, wisdom and the rest need to be looked at but we first and foremost need real quality options to come in and win league and CL games.
LB I agree with but expect it to be a promising youngster as Enrique is top notch when fit. Also agree with RB. Maybe someone that can play both sides or, as expected, we sell Johnson then one for either side with the RB being a now player (I rate Flanno very highly but he is young and still has things to learn). CM; Absolutely. Four (Gerrard, Hendo, Allen and Lucas) into three is no depth at all. Alberto isn't ready. One more for the now would be fine. ST; with Suarez / Sturridge, I'm not convinced we need a "striker" as such. Link this with the winger you mention but call it "attacker" instead. Brod likes players that can play a multiple of roles; aka Sturridge, Sterling, Coutinho and Suarez, all four can play three or more positions. GK; this is not a necessity. It is a cream on the cake signing. So before sales, that's four IMO. A FB, CM and FW for the now along with a GK with potential (assuming as expected Reina goes). I expect at least one of Agger / Skrtel to leave so expect a CB to partner Sakho. Suso, Borini and Wisdom will add depth as well as quality too.
don't think you will want Kaboul,he has the same injury as Ledley King had,so he can only play once a week,if that
Di Marzio says have held talks with Sagna who is keen to stay in England once his contract expires. I think Chelsea are also interested. Please go to Chelsea!! Left Back - I expect Rodgers to bring in a first team LB - he doesn't rate Enrique at all, and there are rumours that Jose is not taking his rehabilitation seriously (possibly the cause of the delayed return). Right Back - As much as I want a player like Sakai, Montoya or Sorg, I think Rodgers will show faith in Flanno and Wisdom, which is shame IMO. Central Midfield - We're also looking at the Bender brothers (Lars and Sven) and either one of them would instantly beef up the midfield. Striker/Attacker - Not sure if Rodgers is looking at a typical striker but more of a versatile attacker. Kono, Shaqiri and Firminio all fit the bill of players who can play across the line.
I think montoya and moreno are real links but i think we'll have to see. its the cutting the apron strong with barca players who stay and reach the age of 21/22. Midfield for me is interestign and could be anyone Upfront rodgers might just take back borini for all i know as his 3rd man and indeed by a second line man but i feel we need better going forward.
There are rumours that Moreno has agreed to join up with Real Madrid in the summer. Talented youngster, no doubt - but the left back we should be targeting is Ricardo Rodriguez. What a signing he could be! For central midfield, we apparently have a very strong interest in both Bender bros (mainly Lars) which would be an incredible signing IMO. Same applies to Firminio for AM position. All in all, at least we're targeting the right calibre of player.
Reports in Portugal suggest that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Sporting Libson defender Marcos Rojas, and watched him in action at the weekend.
i heard that on moreno and then heard he was open to offers. i din't know. Rodriquez yeah... lets see.
How many players do we need for a full blown CL and EPL campaign? Our squad has been stretched this year and that's without the demands of the CL and with an early exit of the league cup. I suspect we'll buy a couple of bigger names and a couple of prospects and add a good fee signing. Coupled with letting a couple go.....net increase in squad of about 3 players Will that be enough for CL football?
Early rounds of the FA Cup and COC will be populated by the youngsters, and remember loanees are coming back too. If that net increase is 3 FIRST TEAM quality players, I think we might be alright.
for me we should have a solid 25 man team which each player being relied on on any given day. At minimum that means for most league matches we should not actually need to play gerrard or suarez.... par se... in other words. No i do not think two players plus another two untrusted alberto types would be near enough If i were writing the list as rodgers then: mingolet... no reserve keeper Johnson, maybe Flanagan... kelly not trusted Skertl Toure Agger sahko no LB at all, i don;t think he rates enrique Gerrard lucas (with question marks) Henderson allen need 2 more CMs Sterling Coutinho Suarez no reserve Sturridge no reserve, borini, aspas.. hardly. SO thas a keeper, two lbs, 2 cms and at least one if not more attackers.... the objective is to play CL, improve our quotient or at least get to knockouts. and get 4th min again... plus maybe a cup. i would prioritise as: 1. CM 2. attacker (be it winger or striker) 3. LB 4. CM no 2. 5. Attacker # 2 6. LB #2/ RB 7. GK i think you can never have enough or do enough but we can only try
