http://folket.se/sportfolket/fotboll/1.1086776 translated to... Sebastian Larsson, 26, played in Sunderland in the autumn. Only details remain before the "Bissen" (his nickname in Sweden) is consistent with its new Premier League club. - Sunderland, the club has been most active and has been on the hardest, says father Svante for Sports People. Sebastian came to go home to Sweden after the holiday in Portugal. Next week he returns to England to sign a contract with Sunderland.26-year-old reunited there with coach Steve Bruce who once took the "Bissen" to Birmingham from Arsenal. - Sunderland have been on really hard since January.Steve Bruce has done much to bring about a deal and been very active, said Svante Larsson. - Sebastian along the way pointed out Sunderland as a distinct possibility. We have turned every stone and weighed the pros and cons. Parties agree on the economic conditions and what remains is to agree on the length of the contract. - They want a little longer and we want less. But I think there will be no problems. Like the bit about realy going for it and hope that it turns out to be the case, would love us to sign a marquee signing or two get the feel good factor back.
I'm hoping is the first of many- i.e the 10 Bruce reckons we need. I'm just a bit concerned most of the players we're connected to are either subs or from recently relegated teams. Anyways lets hope for the best. I like Larsson though.
Anyone else smell a rat? his father speaking out so openly could be him casting his rod to see if others take the bait and steal him from under our noses.
Very happy with this statement, at least it shows a lot of effort being put in, even if we don't get to see or hear about it.
I agree although it could be said if we are actually trying that hard, why havent they signed? If we really have been after this lad since January, havent we actually sold it to him by now? What is the stumbling block?
as i understand it (and i may have this totally wrong) you can't sign a pre-contract agreement with a player whose club plays in the same league as you, so although larsson could sign a deal from around january (6 months before his deal expires at the end of this month) with a club from abroad, he couldn't ink a deal with one in england, nothing can be set in stone til his deal runs out, which is why with all these free transfers the talk is of july 1st. this is why, though we've been at him for ages, nothing can be totally sorted out until july, and sadly for us, with any agent worth his salt he's going to be touting him round anyone who would be prepared to pay more until the second he signs a deal with us or whoever else. looks like it's on though, fingers crossed for this. i'm probably one of henderson's biggest supporters, but from a purely footballing perspective, larsson will suit us better and offer us more, and with £20m banked, that's not bad business. roll on july 1st (unless i'm talking out of my arse and he can join sooner...)
Id make a mess in my pants if the reason they haven't announced Larsson yet, is that they're waiting to tie up the loose ends with N'Zogbia to announce them both in a double whammy, season-ticket-renewing announcement. That'd be the left and wing just about sorted.
til whatever's been getting everyone else crocks them come september. i blame the catering staff, mag conspiracy there or summat.
So how come Henderson, a contracted (5 years) can sign for Liverpool inside 3 days? Am I missing something here?
the key point is "Free Transfer". you can't poach someone from the same league as you for free until their contract has expired, which would be july 1st. you can pay a club to release their player from a contract whenever you want.
Because Larsen is still under contract to Birmingham. So if we signed him before the contract runs out we would have to pay a transfer fee.
Free transfer players have different signing regulations to contracted players Cest. Larsson could have signed a pre contract back in January, had he been approached by a foreign club, but because he is signing for a team in the same country as his previous club, he is not allowed to start negotiations until he is inside the last 6 weeks of his current contract with Birmingham.
