Most of us City fans will point to a time when we have hammered the Blue Few as being the best derby - and visa versa when Rovers won against us, but in my humble opinion this has to be the best of the contests and I never get bored of it.

Unusually for a Bristol derby, it has no scrappy rubbish or bad tackles - just 2 teams trying to play football with passion and commitment in front of a sell-out crowd - and with a passion that hasn't been seen for some time - just look at the delight and pride in the City players when they congratulate Millen on his equaliser - that bunch really CARED!

Credit to Rovers too - their goals were well taken - especially their first, and their keeper made some great saves, but Brown's break and pinpoint cross to Thorpe is the stuff you rarely see today when watching City on The Football League Show.

    Enjoy!

My favourite was our 4-1 win at Eastville in the early 70's closely followed by a 3-0 home win some time in the 80's.
I also quite liked our 3-1 League Cup win at Bath in the 90's

5th round FA Cup 1958 At The Gate. City 3-4 Rovers. Cracking game won by an offside goal from Geoff Bradford.

FA Cup 1983 ? At Eastville Rovers 1-2 City. We came from behind to win. City in 4th Div, Rovers in 3rd.

Plus countless others over my long career.

should of never been able to play on with the pitch looking like that..

Ah well, that penalty save is now in Bristol Derby folklore, Philips sent the gas down..

Oh yes it was 4-2 not 3-1 at Trumpton.

I'm not going to mention our 3-0 humiliation there the year before or thereabouts..

I can recall the worst- It was about 15 years ago now. I think it must have been a cup match and the original postponed from memory, but the rearranged game was midweek, and me and my son travelled up from Devon to watch his first Bristol derby.

That was in the days when you paid at the gate. We arrived in good time, only to be met by a queue that didn't move. There was apparently some problem with ticket duplication and we never got in.

Went to my Mums for tea and left Bristol about 10pm.

At Clevedon, the M5, was closed in both directions due to an accident and we could do nothing but wait for over 3 hours until the air ambulance etc sorted it.

That was pre-mobile phone days, so I couldn't even call home to explain.

Got home about 2.30am, to a by now frantic wife worried about her husband and son, tired hungry and fed up..

And just to rub it in, the Gas won 2-0!
