Totally agree Raw - One of the so called perks for generally lower paid public sector workers was the pension. Now they want to take this away! I can see both sides of the argument here and do honestly feel for those in the private sector who are finding it hard but come on. Did the public sector workers slate the private sector when the good times were flowing and to some extent the extravagance and over indulgence in certain parts of this sector lead to the collapse? Don't get me wrong the public sector does need to modernise as I have seen for myself there can be a lazy "job for life mentality" but there is also MANY hard working under paid sectors which get little recognition for their contribution to society.
Well I fall under this banner being a psychiatric nurse for the past 12 years. I trained for 3 years to get a job where I am the lowest paid amongst my friends in the private sector (by a long way) yet thought it would be a rewarding career. The pension I thought at least offered a security you would not get in the private sector, my mistake! In my job I've been assaulted and abused by patients and relatives more times than I can recall. I have physical scars! I've dealt with life and death and its fallout on those left behind. All in all me and my colleagues put up with **** you wouldn't believe for years with the hope of some security in retirement. So for that I've received no pay rise for three years, had my travel expenditure quadrupled by being moved base against my will and now my pension dismantled! Oh and I find out next week if my ward is closing and whether I'll be out of work (broken promise Mr Cameron) so I'll no longer be a burden on the tax payer! Sweeping generalizations often show a persons ignorance of their subject matter. On a side note I can't recall the government announcing a review of their pension scheme!

Also is it true that our taxes are currently propping up various banking establishments providing them with much needed bonuses and securing their pensions? Remind me arent they in the PRIVATE SECTOR! Some idiots need to think before they type!
correct me if im wrong but wasnt the Northern Rock sponsorship money paid upfront before the financial crisis and ensuing bailout so any money recieved by NUFC was Northern Rock's and not the taxpayers. The sponsorship was for the display of the Northern Rock logo for a certain period of time (which is still running) and so while the logo is still displayed, NUFC does not recieve any money from Northern Rock as it was all paid up front (and spent upfront by FFS)
Some very ill-informed opinions on here ...perhaps people ought to read a little more widely that the Sun, Mirror and Mail, plus that stupid ****ing woman in the Journal
As far as I gather they are still the sponsors of you lot. And if it follows the pattern of 99.999% of other deals it will be an on-going payment usually made on an annual basis.
Wrong, we've subsidised their pensions for years. Actually these people are worse than dole sroungers and benefit fiddlers because they've managed to rip us off legally by holding the country to ransom with their constant threat of strkes etc. Sad thing is most of them are there because the just weren't bright enough to get proper jobs.
No but there are an awful lot sitting in offfice who definitely are. Nurses, bin men, policemen, firemen, paramedics, road sweepers, care workers, and social worker are unfortunatly tarred with the same brush as the multitude of idle jobsworths the public sector and civil service has spawned.
Blind Corner you obviously have little grasp of the actual facts behind what is a complicated and highly emotive situation, frankly not worth responding to in any detail as you my former friend are a fool.
The country is never going to improve with it's over reliance on the public sector and in order to grow the private sector to grow there needs to be much more equality between the two. I agree with what the Tories are doing here 100%. At the moment people in the private sector have to work twice as hard for a fraction of the pay and benefits, how is that fair?
