    Charlton Athletic v AFC Bournemouth

    Tuesday 18th March 2014
    7:45pm Kick-Off
    Referee: James Linington

Apologies for being unable to write up a Thread for the Millwall match (due to a lack of time available to me last week) yet just like Jonathan Obika (who re-signed on loan this afternoon) I return to write up the Match Thread for the re-arranged clash with AFC Bournemouth.

Originally planned for the end of January the first up of our important games in hand had to be postponed because of FA Cup commitments for both sides (Huddersfield for Charlton and Liverpool for Bournemouth) and we find ourselves up against a side who have had an inconsistent season without ever getting into any real relegation worry with the South Coast side currently lying in 12th position.

Of course this is a big tie for reunions as in Defence the likes of Rhoys Wiggins and Simon Francis face up against former sides along with Harry Arter (a youth product who only managed the one FA Cup appearance for the Addicks against Luton Town) whilst you can’t forget Danny Hollands, almost a forgotten man now at Charlton who made over 200 appearances at Dean Court…

Of course the main attraction of the night will be the return of cult hero Yann Kermorgant who left the Valley at the end of January although there is some doubt over his fitness as the Striker has missed the last three games for Bournemouth due to a heel injury.

    03.08.2013 – AFC Bournemouth 2-1 Charlton Athletic
In the reserve fixture; Charlton and Bournemouth met in the opening weekend of the Championship season… that day two goals from Lewis Grabban (in between a strike from Yann Kermorgant) gave victory to the Cherries after promotion from League One… Charlton’s day ended sourly after Midfielder; Bradley Pritchard was shown a straight red card.

    AFC Bournemouth Since Then…
Since victory on the first day, Bournemouth have won a total of 13 matches with five of those wins coming away from home… five matches on the road have also been draw whilst the Cherries have suffered defeat on seven occasions when travelling.

Goals have mostly come from Lewis Grabban who has 15-goals whilst Matt Ritchie and Brett Pitman both have 5-goals apiece… Bournemouth have scored 19-goals away from home, conceding 32-goals in the process, their biggest defeat on the road this season was their second game of the season away at Watford (losing 6-1) whilst their biggest win on the road (1-0) has occurred three times.

    Head to Head Meetings
In brief... Bournemouth lead the head to head with thirteen wins compared to Charlton’s ten… eight matches have been drawn (most recently a 2-2 in 2011), the last and only time that Bournemouth have ever done the double over Charlton in a season was way back in 1924 (the first season the two teams met in fact)

    Charlton Team News
With Jon Obika arriving at the Valley today there must still be a few question marks as to who is picking the side and who is making the transfers at the moment… Although conspiracies aside it appears as though most of the Squad came through the South London Derby unscathed so it remains to be seen whether there will be changes or not as the games continue to come thick and fast.

Possible side to face AFC Bournemouth
    Hamer
    Wilson – Morrison – Dervite – Wiggins
    Cousins – Jackson – Poyet
    Sordell – Obika – Harriott

    Substitutes Bench
    Thuram – Wood – Nego – Ajdarevic – Pritchard – Ghoochanneijad – Church

    The Referee - James Linington
Travelling From: Newport (Isle of Wight)
Matches this Season: 35 (11 in the Championship)
    Yellow Cards 77-7 Red Cards
    Penalties: 5
    Last Charlton Match: N/A

    A4L’s Prediction: 2-1 (Obika, Sordell)

Great stuff as ever A4L <ok>

If Kermorgant plays he will score, simple as.

I can't see us winning this one even if he doesn't play - 0-2 Bournemouth.

Kermit will not score. Fact. Morro will shackle him.

2-0 to the Addicks. Obika and Jackson with the goals.

    COYR!

Should have made it obligatory that Kermo can't play.

    Shall we boo him?<monster>:emoticon-0130-devil:

I reckon that Morrison and Dervite have been so used to him the last two years that they'll deal with him all night long

Great stuff, A4L. That starting 11 looks decent, shame about the bench.

Its a sign of the times that we regard newly promoted Bournemouth as a difficult home fixture. And it will be, because as they showed on the opening day of the season at their place, they are a decent footballing side with pace and threat going forwards. Yann apparently only 50/50 tonight. Strange that we let Arter go, yet retained tat like Pritchard.

With three difficult away games following Burnley on Saturday, tonight is a must win.

Arter and Pritchard are in two completely different periods to be fair. I think it was Pards who let Arter go. Though at the time I thought it was madness, always preferred him to Josh Wright.

I think if we are going to win we have to score first. I just dont see us being able to lose a goal and then have the confidence that we can score 2 to win it.
I really dont know with this, my heart says 1-0 but my head says 1-2.

Was the biggest joke that he managed to keep Chris Solly out of the side for so long

If we lose tonight, I will donate £50 to a charity of this forum's choice.

If we draw tonight, I will donate £25 to a charity of this forum's choice.

If we win tonight, I will roll the deal over to the Burnley match.

Perhaps if we are all in agreement, the cash could go to a charity of Dick P's choice?
