Yes, but that was due to relocation of the football club - valid grounds for changing a name, considering it was no longer in Wimbledon.
The advisory committee have made the recommendation to the full FA board that it be rejected, therefore, there is time for the Hull owner to slide some brown envelopes under some hotel room doors, before the final decision in April.
They've just repeated on Sky the quote he made saying he would leave if it was rejected. Strange that he thinks the fans are making a fuss about a simple thing like a name change, when he acts as childish as that.
He may well leave, but only if he gets his money back or a small profit (or more) by selling the club. He won't just walk out, so his bluff will get called.
Actually Fran there is in a sense. All clubs are registered to the FA by a registered title. In their case that presumably is Hull Kingston Rovers. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they apply to drop the Kingston bit a few years ago? Sorry just can't remember. Anyway I digress......When MK dons applied for a name change they were only granted it because of their move to Milton Keynes and the tradition of using place names in the title. Originally they were told no because it did not clearly represent the football team as it was. The Dons bit was added to satisfy the FA that by adding their nickname their identity would be still known. If the FA were to grant a full name change to Hull, they believe it might set a dangerous precedent as they have never had a change in the leagues History (other than the for mentioned Dons of course). They are also not too keen on the "Americanism in names either" Personally we do not want people like that to be allowed to dominate the Franchise in my view!
Hull Kingston Rovers is the rugby team. I can almost hear Eddie Waring's dulcet tones pronounce the name. Incidentally, you don't get many "up an unders" in rugby league any more.
Since when has huge debt stopped football clubs staying in the prem? Or having to pay those debts? It's normally a few years after the impact... and if Hull stay in the Prem, they'll be banking £65m a season at least, with £20m parachute payments if they go down. Their stadium is owned by the council, so they'll not want to chuck them out even if it did go tits up.
Hull fans have voted 'YES' to changing the club name to 'Hull Tigers', say the results of the supporter ballot.
Interesting but do we know how many people voted? I wonder how many fan voted in favour just because they where worried he might actually leave........
RESULTS OF SUPPORTER BALLOT TOTAL ELIGIBLE TO VOTE - 15,033 TOTAL VOTES CAST - 5,874 IN FAVOUR - 2,565 AGAINST - 2,517 INDIFFERENT - 792 RESULT: Name change accepted by supporters of the club.
Always thought it was a lot of fuss about nothing. I'd like to see a ballot of Cardiff City fans about what colour shirt they should be wearing.
