Good news, and a much needed addition IMO. Not a natural or prolific scorer, but a player who can work the line, hold the ball up, and bring team mates into play. Rumours on the terraces last Saturday that the Tudgay loan has not worked out, so will it be Sordell and Obika as the strike force to keep us up?

It's better than nothing, and at least we've got a signing in who knows this division, as well as one who has scored goals for us before.

    Welcome back Jon <ok>

Yes, may I also be the first to say "well done" to Roland for sanctioning this transfer. That is three good decisions RD has made in the last week, the other two being the spending of £2m upgrading the training ground, and of course the firing of Powell <laugh>

Widely reported on our boards that he is spending £2m. Dick plumb may know.

Has to start tomorrow. Based on last seasons performance, he's got to be our best striker now. Sodall up front is just not working.

CAFCfromthesouth discussed training ground improvements as well as new contracts for some of the youth staff a while back. Posters were printed at the training complex last week discussing it, thought no money was mentioned.

Didn't see much of last season so only basing my views on Obika from your opinions on here. Got a few important goals for us before, hopefully he can do the same between now and May, starting tomorrow would be nice.

When Reg Varney was in charge the Community Trust were putting up 3M pounds and the remaining 2Million was due to be funded by the old owners, but they didn't come up with the dosh. So the baton is being picked up by Roland with a few updates. This is all to do with getting Cat A status which will be a great step forward. I believe notices have been given to the local residents.

I don't know, Roland that asset stripping bastard.

So, the question is, Obika was wanted by CP, but doesn't sign until CP is gawn. The player's decision, I wonder? He didn't get much playing time under CP before, and had to bang on his door to ask him why he'd brought him to the Valley. Or does anybody know of another reason?

Obika looked at who was in front of him in the queue - Reza, Sordell, and Church - and didn't fancy his chances of making a breakthrough.

Poyet signs a new contract, Tottenham have first refusal next summer for loaning us Obika now. Too cynical?

Nothing's too cynical in football these days; IF Poyet signs a new contract it might have legs.

I welcome this signing, Not because he is much good, but because we have no chance of finding better, and he is at least in the right position. Funny that out of the hundreds, maybe thousands, of players potentially available for transfer across Europe, we have signed the very one who would have been top of Chris Powell's list.

Bringing back Sordell and Pritchard into the team, and now signing Obika, Riga's main strategy for survival seems to be "What would Chris Powell do in this position?"

Whichever centre back doesn't start we can expect to be introduced late on tomorrow if we're winning then.

I have never really understood this "first refusal" business. Surely the player will go where he and his agent (and in this case his dad) thinks he will be best off financially and development-wise, regardless of what his current club and some other club has cooked up. If he doesn't want to go to Tottenham there is nothing they can do to make him. What am I failing to understand?

He looks a natural fit for Arsenal to me. They must be pleased with the Jenkinson purchase, and they have two defensive midfielders to be replaced before too long (Arteta and Flamini). Also they are steadily building to a long-term plan while Tottenham are flailing around and who knows who their next manager will be? Of course, it might well be Poyet. I don't know if that would make his son more, or less, likely to go there.
