If I won 160m, I wouldnt mind giving them 20m with a contract stating they can buy no more than 2 players with it and it is to be used for nothing else and must be ****ing used. I might get the urge to ****ing watch them playing again. Also written into the contract would be that Desmond must say to me, "im a tight old **** whos **** at golf". That would be worth the 20m alone. Who needs 160m ffs, sort yerself and your family and friends out no problem, if I had that money I would be able to make a ****load more anyway. 20m would be peanuts. Like giving your m8 20 quid if you have 160, no problem.
After transfer fee and wages we wouldn't get James McCarthy from Everton for £20m - although we could have had him for about £2.5m if Tony Mowbray wasn't a dick. Chucking £20m at it would do **** all, it's one good seasons worth of CL money - we are hindered by the entire Scottish game being ****e at the minute and there's almost nothing we can do about it, even chucking a lot of money at Celtic would just put us in the same position we are now, scalping the rest of the league with **** all competition.
And we would still be favourites to finish 4th in the CL groups even if we blew £50m on players. Yeah we'd hope for luck and maybe scrape third or maybe even second. But it wouldnt alter where we are as a club with our income
mick we wouldnt be buying in the ***** market known as the english premier league. There is plenty of value out there, you could get 2 quality players in their early 20s if you were willing to spend 20m on two players and their wages for a couple of years. Your not going to get creme de la creme, but you could buy two champions league class players. And two is better than none.
Eddie, you're speaking ****e. Celtic spending £20m on 2 players won't happen and the majority of players with that kind reputation wouldn't touch us with a ****ty stick. See Arnautovic & Mitroglou for proof. End of story.
I know venom, its a hypothetical situation where I won 160m and gave celtic 20m for players Plenty of class players out there would come to Celtic to play in the Champions league for a massive club if we paid them the going rate. Dont ever doubt that.
That'll be the same hypothetical situation where I had a jetpack in my jacksie and could fly about as long as I had cut a hole through my scuds and trousers. If you offered £20m to Celtic and said they could only buy two players with it, they'd most likely tell you to **** off. No point in having a wage structure/signing policy and then ****ing that over for some sugar daddy and his vagaries.
£20m is pish in the pool in the grand scheme of things. As Mick said, £20m these days gets you 1 player and his wages, at the salary level you're talking about, for the length of a 3-4 year contract. Why would a club break a successful business model for 1, possibly 2, half decent players and short-term success? That's Hun mentality that is.
Alright, ill give them 40m Finbogasson was a good example just there, we could have got him for 3-4 years for under 10m, not anymore we cant because hes top scorer in Holland and the transfer fee and wages are up. There is quality out there at a fair price, plenty of it, we just arent in the market.
I actually agree with this but have now accepted it's a pipe dream. We'll persevere with the likes of Stokes and sign players for the type of money that was spent on Griffiths. That's the reality and it's ****ing pish. It's a Catch 22, I'll no be going back regularly until the investment matches season ticket prices, which will never happen. You can get season tickets for Barca & Bayern that are a 1/3 of the price of the cheapest ST at Celtic Park. Scottish football is a pish rip-off. The pish part I can accept, the rip-off part. Naw.
How much money do Bayern and Barcelona get through their tv deals to subsidize these season tickets ???
The season ticket money was an example Harry. Everything to do with Scottish football is a rip-off. I've gone through it before, doesn't need to be repeated. Also, the TV money is irrelevant. Even if they only got £1 for TV rights; £300+ for a season ticket to watch the SPFL would still be daylight robbery.
I paid £26 for Killie on Friday night along with 6000 other mugs , how many Killie punters came other than season ticket holders ?? None !! If it had been 10 /15 pounds some Killie punters might have thought about it . Then you have the epl punters paying 60 pounds to watch their over rated rubbish. The spurs / Arsenal game yesterday was awful , then you think 26 quid to watch our team might be a good deal !!!!
Comparisons with England are moot. They are on a different level in terms of TV money to Spain & Germany never mind Scotland. I'm talking about value for money, not just the cost of a match ticket. When you factor in everything that encompasses going to the football in Scotland the quality doesn't match the price. It's not just Celtic I'm pointing the finger at either, the whole league system needs to review how to either improve standards or reduce prices.
Tickets should be a tenner. Fiver for concessions. That reflects the quality on show IMHO and I wouldn't be willing to spend anymore than that. OK maybe £15 at a push. Season tickets should be £250 - 18 x £10 for home league games, another £20 - £40 for potential home cup games and the rest just for the privelage of getting first dibs on Euro tickets.
I thought that instead of giving us £100 off season tickets we should have made all Champions League / Europa League qualifiers + group games included as part of the season book.
