“69 Minutes gone and Fulham are 2-0 to Manchester City on the 16th of April 2008. As it stands Fulham’s destiny next season is the Championship…” And then we know what happened.

Sorry for looking forward to next Saturday. Ok it’s not going to happen, but we can dream. #Fulhamish

City away has actually been one of our more successful hunting grounds…

    2012/2013 Man. City 2 - 0 Fulham 0 Points
    2011/2012 Man. City 3 - 0 Fulham 0
    2010/2011 Man. City 1 - 1 Fulham 1
    2009/2010 Man. City 2 - 2 Fulham 1
    2008/2009 Man. City 1 - 3 Fulham 3
    2007/2008 Man. City 2 - 3 Fulham 3
    2006/2007 Man. City 3 - 1 Fulham 0
    2005/2006 Man. City 1 - 2 Fulham 3
    2004/2005 Man. City 1 - 1 Fulham 1
    2003/2004 Man. City 0 - 0 Fulham 1
    2002/2003 Man. City 4 - 1 Fulham 0

After all, it would be a pity not to play them next season !

Now to celebrate today's 3 points.

Aguerro and Kompany both out. There for the taking then!

And they have a Demichelis heel.

At 33 he will be vulnerable to our new sprightly youngsters. Kind of unbelievably our average age on Saturday was 26.5.

At 23 he would have been vulnerable to our sprightly youngsters. Demichelis has always been a vastly overrated player.

I calculated the average age on Saturday to be 27, but that doesn't change the fact that it was a definite move in the right direction!

I'm not complaining but I knew this would happen. Last week was the important 6 must win game I was sure then that I heard the fat lady singing.

I gave us no chance but with a win under our belt you just never know. Kompany is a key to Man City and so with him out it can only help. I didn't know about Aguerro so that's a further bonus. Wigan did it last week so there is no reason we can't.

The atmosphere yesterday was good 2nd half and the team look fitter - there's a glimmer of hope.

Let's keep a sense of perspective. The next two matches are arguably the two hardest of our remaining games - City and Everton. It's entirely possible for us to play really well and lose both of them. If that happens then, depending on other result, we could still be in touch or we could be a long way behind our rivals. We've got to play to win both games, but not start counting the points. If we don't get anything from these games it leaves us very little margin for error in the remaining matches. We're not dead and buried, but we've still left ourselves an awful lot to do. Fulhamish optimism keeps bubbling up, but in my heart of hearts I think we're more likely to go down than survive. Of course, if we get a win from one of those games, things will look much more positive. Let's see what happens in the next couple of weeks before we go too far overboard in either direction.

I wonder what what the Magath dislikers thought when they saw the team sheet Saturday, Woodrow, Kaca, Holtby all under 25.

ll fans are not expecting anything from the City game. This should release any pressure on them and playing to win, closing down and breaking with lightening pace will make for a great game! Oh the Mojo is back!

    And Kasami.

I'm not expecting a positive result from City, they are such a good team. However, I am looking for a positive performance. Lots of energy, lots of passion - let's see where that gets us.

If we play like Barcelona (but in a Fulhamish way!) I think we'll beat them.

Those weren't the surpise starts on Saturday. Fait play to felix though, he's fairly quickly sussed players that either haven't got in his words, "fight".

In another interview with the local rag (he seems to have sussed them equally quickly as an ally) he's again very up front about now bringing in younger players and why:

" Boss Felix Magath plans to continue putting his faith in Fulham’s youngsters as the club battle against relegation. Magath initially banked on the Whites’ more experienced players and shipped youngsters Larnell Cole and Ryan Tunnicliffe, who signed from Manchester United in January, out on loan.

But after Fulham failed to win in his first three matches in charge, the German has selected the likes of Alex Kacaniklic and Cauley Woodrow, while Patrick Roberts, 17, was on the bench for Saturday’s victory against Newcastle. And Magath said: “The decision was based on the last games. I had thought that, in this situation, the older players are more confident – but they weren’t. I gave the experienced players a chance first but if it doesn’t work then I have to do something else."

“The young players like Cauley Woodrow are more exciting. They have nothing to lose and give us good motivation, and I think they give us more of a chance to stay up.”

Woodrow gave a solid display against the Magpies, while Kacaniklic was impressive and looks likely to keep his place.

“Cauley played very well. I’m convinced that he will have a future and I also think that in Patrick Roberts we have an extraordinary talent here,” Magath added. “Pat is a player for the future and if the game was heading in a different way then I’d have put him on to score. He is only 17 but he is a very good goalscorer and he will do it in the Premier League too.”

he does make a lot of sense, don't you think? I bet he wishes he held on to the 2 Man U boys though.

I can't remember if I said this in another thread or just thought it to myself. My reading of that is the perhaps he identified Tunnicliffe and Cole as the two players most likely to react badly to the departure of Meulensteen. Whether he saw something in their reaction or pre-empted it, he possibly moved quickly to remove possible sources of discontent as he started his work with Fulham. Just a thought.

They are good though. And they have two of my Sevilla lad's playing for them now. I'm almost torn between who to cheer for. Almost.

If only he'd gone with the youngsters from the start; it was no secret when he took over that the senior players weren't up to it.

I guess he had to give them a chance - and based on their experience they really should have been able to adapt but clearly they couldn't and the kids can. I think it is very encouraging that he sees some of our youngsters as real talents. This guy knows what he is talking about and has played at the highest level with the very best so if he says someone is an extraordinary talent then you can bet he is something pretty special. For me, that is very exciting looking forward.

Go well, Cravens, and bring us back a win. Every year this is one of the fixtures I hope is going to fall during the school holidays - Mrs Captain's family are from the North West, so we're usually up there at some point in the year. Sadly, it hardly ever happens that we're there at the right time for an away match. Maybe I'll get to see us at the Etihad next season, or is that being hopelessly optimistic?

In Moscow at the minute - good reminder that whatever happens with Fulham at least we all don't live here. I must have drunkenly shat on everyone's carpet judging by the way people are.

This will be the game everything clicks - 4-0 rout for the whites!

I am overly optimistic about the game - in all likelihood we'll face an onslaught - city have a fantastic team - sprightly start from us - maybe an early goal and then under the cosh.

No inkling of Magath s team - didn't like his starting line up on Saturday but we got the points - kaca, Holtby and kasami out of position at times - we went back to the wingers cutting in - but dejegah did get his goal coming in. Reither sub was genius though.

If we show the same spirit who knows what might happen

Reither seems a little wild and I wasn't overly keen but I think you're right, he tries and chases everything down. Dejagah...limped off. I doubt he's in contention. I would not play Kaca - i've said it before too lightweight for me. Who do you bring in. Its a game built for Duff but thats not going to happen.
