Problem is some prat decided that St George's Day was not good enough to be a national holiday.

To be honest, I go out and get drunk anyway. I don't need a special day to encourage it.

Lots of other countries did the same, Polly, which is why most of South America speaks Spanish and why Portuguese and French is also widely spoken outside of those countries. They still celebrate their national days.

Reason we don't is that celebrating Saints is Catholic thing and, fortunately, we weren't lumbered with such a backward religion. The only one which give Islam a run for its money regarding intolerance. As the link shows.
Imagine the fuss from all the liberals if the C of E or Anglicans did similar or issued the same statements about people.

I think thats a misconception, especially in Hull.

Please point out all the Irsh pubs in Hull, we must be the largest English city without any, not even an O'Neill's.

There IS great pride in England, displayed in pubs during the six nations and world cup and local English real Ale rivals Guiness sales in many pubs. English identity and nationalism is growing in the face of possible Scottish independence etc, I really think its a myth that we English don't care about England and St George.

You don't need Irish pubs, all the pubs usually have a Guinness day on St Patrick's Day anyway. They should have a Real Ale Day on St Georges Day to celebrate. <cheers>

And that's why I think we should have our own special day. St George is also the patron saint of ****loads of countries and cities, so it's just not special. We should have something uniquely ours the way the Convicts do with Australia Day.

    Did I really?

I'd like you to point that out where I said that.

I know you can't, I don't understand what you get from making up complete bull**** such as this, you just make yourself look more of a childish, unintelligible plank, if that's possible.

Yes YOU are Right. A total retraction of my comment , warrants an unreserved total withdrawal of my slanderous remark, As in FACT Mr.Hat did not say it. I thought from memory in the thread for Semi-final dress, it could of been invariably linked to you. But alas it was Golly. But in retrospect F*** it , U get no apology fr me, Coz Ur really are a dead ****.

What, do you mean you're going to kill me, or that I'm not actually alive now?

I have trouble translating your gibberish into English.

hmm getting a lager to celebrate the day isnt a bad idea, make the youngsters 20+ feel more patriotic.

You are forced, by the crazy left, to feel embarrassed by your English heritage, there is a massive lefty conspiracy to make any English man appear 'racist' if he chooses to celebrate his national heritage
