Januzaj or Sterling... Who is the better wide player?

And what do you say?

 

I'm glad we've got Sterling.. keeps learning and putting in the hours on the pitch (not the night clubs) and sky's the limit for the lad..
Saying that, I like the youngster from ManU too, just a shame his manager hasn't got a clue on how best to use him.
Seriously think that under the right manager he'd be damn decent too, Rodgers could work wonders with him, assuming he'd be willing to put in a shift on the pitch, from what I've seen of him, he's Mata'esque in his work rate/tracking back etc.

 

Young players tend to come in, do well, then suffer from a dip in form.
This happened to Sterling, and Rodgers took him out of the side for a bit, and he's benefitted from that.
I expect a similar thing to happen to Januazi.
Both are going to be top players.

 

The comparison is not fair on Januzaj. It's his first season whereas Sterling has far more experience. Sterling is principally a winger with blistering pace whereas Januzaj is a ball player with not enough pace to exploit the gaps behind defences. So if you must make the comparison then it goes to Sterling hands down. Sterling can perform a midfield role whereas Januuzaj can't play on the wing (even though United continue to try and play him there).

Januzaj is also suffering as he has been more and more exposed. We now know what his favourite moves are. We now know that he lacks pace. So as defences have got used to him, the brashness of youth is being knocked out of him. It will be interesting to see how he develops from here. He is also suffering from playing in a demoralised side. Now none of us really knows what is happening in the United dressing room but whatever is happening isn't positive and that will have an effect upon his development.

Sterling had the same development problems last year (and at the start of this) but with some hard work from him, the support of his manager and team-mates he appears to have overcome them. He's still far from the finished article and he may not have the natural talent as Januzaj but he's the far more effect player right now.

I'd like to point to the debate we were having prior to the January 2013 transfer window too; Sterling vs Walcott, who would you prefer. If I remember correctly, I was in a minority (again) in preferring Sterling. And thats despite me not rating Raheem as highly as others too

 

Let's only compare players of the same age and same experience playing in the same position in the same team

 

Must be of similar origin too. Local lads get preference

I made clear my argument as to why it was not fair on Januzaj. If you disagree then make reasoned arguments; if you can't then keep quiet!

Janusaj is going to be comparible to coutinho in the longer term (i.e 3 years)

Sterling is a winger, will be a winger end of. therefore he should be compared to an equivalent winger in the england set up.

Janusaj is 18 and utd have rooney, mata and kagawa in his slot. not such a great thing frankly.

Sterling has forced his way back into lfc thinking and as a result i wonder if coutinho has got his move to midfield as a result.

We will see if rodgers puts both in the same side from now til seasons end cos bringing allen in for harder games to control midfield seems to be a good move.

If we see both we'll see coutinho in midfield at home or v cardiff and stelring on the wing.

Januzaj is a bit unfortunate in that he's being hailed as the saviour to United season after hi 2 goals v Sunderland. Could be argued was a bad thing for him to score thoe goals as put massive amount of pressure on him through the rest of the season. No doubt he's a good player but prob needs a break and to go away like Sterling did and come back stronger.

 

I was actually going to say earlier I would have Downing as a winger over Mata and Januzaj. Mata is just not a winger and I don't actually know what Januzaj is, maybe hes one of those imposter footballers like the one that blagged his way into Southampton by saying he was George Weahs cousin.

 

Can anyone actually remember the sh*te we used to play with the likes of Adam, Downing, Carroll? It really no coincidence that since they left, our style has dramatically improved.

 

Mata is 141

There's the myth about him not playing much but he has 19 appearances and 1354 minutes which is only 147 minutes less than Sterling

 

Bump. Jacuzzi is still muck and Sterling is the best 19 year old in Europe

 

C'mon guys the kid is good and very young. His talent will come through. I'm proud to have seen sterling develop for us over 5 years and in no way need to disparage another to build up our kid
