No abuse or insults to other forum members on the Spurs board, please. No quoting it, either. Who's going to be first out of the door tonight, then? Sherwood or Moyes?
Sherwood won't - the performance today was better so it's saved him. In truth - he'll stay to the end of the season - don't see what the point of him going now would be - wo're too far off top 4 for anyone to come in and work a miracle.
So Sherwood using the high line is, what, one win and three or four losses? He came in to a replace a manager widely deemed tactically naïve for playing the high line against teams like Arsenal and losing as a result. Sherwood comes in, stops playing the high line, has success with a 4-4-2 and a counterattacking style, then switches back to the high line and looks tactically naïve losing to Benfica and Arsenal. It's the failure of basic reasoning, or the inability to learn from experience, that gets me.
Its all big balls and bravado . " I cant be seen to be scared of Arsenal so ill push up high , and attack attack attack ...the fans will love it. " eerrr you need to do the best for the team , if that looks abit defensive , tough .....not do what the fans will love. Youll end up on your arse mate .
Nail on head. Mourinho deployed the same tactics last week and admitted as much. Too often in football possession is confused with 'dominance'. I view shots on target as the superior stat after Goals.
Exactly. What angers me is that I think he knows it's not our best chance to get the win we desperately needed and he does it anyway. I try to be positive, as a general rule, but may or may not have one rant after a loss. Playing the high line got me today. I do give Sherwood credit for finally playing Eiriksen in the center, but Eiriksen unfortunately wasn't able to influence the game. Our three best creative players this year have been Ade, Holtby and Soldado, in all honesty. Eiriksen's been brilliant on free kicks, but hasn't made enough key passes. Hopefully this summer they'll work on getting him a little stronger and combating the two handed shoves which have been taking away his dribbling effectiveness. Pointing out that it's a foul which is called when it's done to other players might not be a bad start. To be fair, I thought everyone tried hard today, as they did against Benfica.
Dunno what to say really! We tried hard... But that's the least we should expect anyway! Once again, very little creativity, lots of nervous mistakes and high line suicide.... but we gave it a go, and unfortunately just didn't have enough to get an equaliser. The subs didnt work again, and the Bentaleb situation is beyond a joke. But...I still believe there's hope for this lot. Sherwood has commented this evening saying "some of these players might be world class, but their not my cup of tea". that's gonna go down well with levy! There's nothing left to play for, so can we please sack this idiot and let the players express themselves for the last few games of the season. It doesn't matter what happens now.
Interesting. Under AVB we often had vast numbers of shots on target but apparently that wasn't good either. I guess criticising the team is the most important thing.
"Too often in football possession is confused with 'dominance'." Been through this the other day. I suspect the possession stats for Spurs games are skewed by possession in the first two thirds of the pitch. The 6N rugby live stats break the field into quarters, which if done for PL games would show a very different story. Choice of "bucket" size in stats is very important in data analytics. "I view shots on target as the superior stat after Goals" Similarly, 20 odd powder puff shots on target means nothing. If you correlate "shot on target" with the measure needed to stop the goal (GK save, defender deflection/clearance etc) , then again you get a very different story.
What for… so that our useless Chairman can hire another failure to manage our team next season and fire him when they fail too? When are people going to finally realise that the person appointing these failures managing/coaching our team has to take the fall? If we continue to allow the same unqualified, jumped up accountants to run our club, we will be stuck in limbo for a long time. Time for change at the top, not just field level!
Exactly. It's about being incisive in approach play, clinical in front of goal, etc. we clearly lack even a hint of that. You just knew that unless Eriksen pulled off a free kick special, we wouldn't score today - for all the huff and puff. Even when their clown of a keeper presented us with a gift, we managed to **** it up!..
But, we lost. Why didn't we get anything from the game? Instead of having a pop at fellow Spurs fans (and turning this into the Gooners' board), why don't you point out to us why you think today's game changes anything? Okay, so we didn't lose 0-3, but we still looked toothless. How many more games going backwards is it going to take for you to allow that the "negatives" don't actually outweigh the positives?
It just gets a little boring listening to all the 'I told you so' moaning. Some of us are in to football for enjoyment, if you use it as some kind of penis extension then you support the wrong club.
the account's that run the club, are highly qualified people, and if it wasn't for them there would be no THFC,it's a business now so they are more important than a team manager
It's amazing how in the space of pretty much two years, we've gone from the Prem's most entertaining team to the least. Possession football that involves keeping it in the opponents half for a bit, playing it back to the defence, playing a bit forward again and then playing a Stoke-esque long ball to Ade in the hope something will come from it OR playing it to an inverted winger to cut back onto the stronger foot and deliver a cross that doesn't beat the first man. 2 shots on target over a 90 minute period at home is a shocking statistic and one that sums up how lacklustre we are with the ball in the final 3rd. Sherwood again royally messed up with selection and subs though I'm getting accustomed to that now so it's no surprise, a shame as I really thought he may have been good for us, his "I know what the fans want" speech was clearly bollocks. How has this club managed to go from one managerial dope to another?
Exactly. If only we knew tots, if only we knew. Confidence must be rock bottom at the moment. The players have been managed poorly all season, both by AVB and by Tim and while that doesn't fully entitle them to look completely uninterested at times, it's of no surprise they have no bite and desire to push hard for a manager(s) they clearly can't work with.
