I was exactly the same. When Kompany was sent off after 10 minutes I thought "Get in, this should be a great weekend". Little did I know that Hull would roll over, we would implode, United would be utter ****e....again, and Spurs wouldnt even turn up. EPIC footballing fail this weekend I am afraid. Shame too, because if we had gone on 69 points, regardless of the other scores, I had felt that with our remaining fixtures compared to the other three teams, the ball would very much have been in our court. Never mind
I agree to a point but if Arsenal / Liverpool can challenge so can we, we finished above both last year and have spent more money since. This title is there for the taking and we really blew it this weekend. Now we have 2 first teamers suspended as well for the forthcoming fixtures.
And I agree too but those teams did't have new managers with wanting to play a different style. It isn't coincidence that we started our long unbeaten run later in the season when the team became more familiar with the system and once Jose was able to sign another player he knew would fit that system. Liverpool are benefiting from being so poor last year which led to so few games for them this year. Arsenal we will still better. City have always been favs imo and I will stick with what I expected which is what we have achieved.
Yeah City have always been favourites for me even before this weekend as I knew we've had enough tight games recently that eventually we'd drop points. We just aren't turning up for 90 minutes at the moment. Just really frustrated as this could have been a great weekend for us.
We keep reading about our 'big' squad when it couldn't be further from the truth. I think this has had an effect. Although some of that is of Jose's' own making. We are really lucky we haven't had any longterm injuries, van Ginkel apart. The only reason we got to top spot was because others fell behind in the game count. It isn't over, there will be more twists. If we beat arsenal and don't lose at Anfield we'll be right there.
So you have started to come good because the players have adapted to the Jose style and he got time to buy the players he wanted, thus improving the team? That's so interesting, because BR had a poor start due to trying to implement his ideas to a Liverpool team that wasn't built for that style of play, then when he had a chance to sign his own players for the club and they had time to adapt to his game, we've improved massively. It's interesting that you don't see a similarity.
Lack of games meant he could focus on training and his system. if you don't play on Wednesday you get three extra days to focus on team play rather than match-training, travelling, playing and warming down from a match. Liverpool will not perform so well next season because of Europe, especially with a weak squad
Last 2 games would be crucial as much as next couple of games. We have Norwich at home & Cardiff away on the last day. Both relegation teams. Who would fight tooth and nail. On the other hand, City have West Ham & Villa - both kind of Mid table mediocrity and both at HOME. Ideal scenario would be Cardiff to get relegated before last week and Norwich secures safety just before the penultimate week. Also hoping Villa and / or West Ham flirt with relegation until the last week to make things even between us & City. Still 7/8 weeks to go.
No offence but you played very poor football last season too. Your win owed much more to the failures of the other sides than it did to any great play from United!
I'm glad that you have already written us off for next season. It will make beating you all the sweeter. There is a transfer window before next season in which we will strengthen further. We will also have even more youngsters who have first team experience either with us or with twams where they have been on loan.
You will find it tougher next season. And we will be much stronger once we have added another CM and couple of strikers. Reckon we could get 90 points plus next season. This season will be very tight
If we'd had Matic for the first half of the season we'd have won the title with ease. We won't have to add too much. Bring Coutois, Lukaku,Bertrand and a fit van Ginkel and buy atop striker and we'll be set.
Delusion is the word. Do you know Big papi? If not - he is the one who got the world series to your "sister red team" here in the colonies. He is getting disrespected by Henry & Co. Same could easily happen to Luis and if Real is after him he would be gone. Shall we talk about not weakening before start strengthening?
Nobody is writing you off, but there's no doubt Liverpool have benefitted from the league being weak hence why they've been able to pick off poor teams + United/Spurs at will when it previous seasons they'd always struggled against those sides. Chelsea will be much stronger next season and I'd imagine City will too. This is pretty much the glass ceiling for Liverpool as there's no way they'll be able to replicate the kind of figures they have. This is pretty much the golden chance for Liverpool to win the title.
We'll see what next season brings but I strongly doubt that your analysis will be even close to the truth.
Some results in football i have to say, i find hard to get my head around. How can Villa lose at home 1-4 to Stoke a week after beating the table toppers 1-0. If i were Paul Lambert i would be asking my players a few questions !!!
