Anyone on here celebrate this day? any Guinness drinkers? or green Guinness even So anyone out tonight celebrating or was over the weekend ? tends to be busy for me yearly over and during the Irish celebration playing wise albeit you have to play the usual 'Wild Rover & Tell Me Ma' etc - quite a few of the local drinking establishments are putting on live music tonight with Irish themed celebrations, we played at (a normally busy) Ashbrook Cricket Club yesterday albeit to small but good listening crowd -
I'll be doing **** all because I'm not Irish. It boils my piss the way the English make such a fuss over it.
I will be celebrating St George's Day, but I never celebrate st Patrick's Day, although I do enjoy a pint of Guinness every now and again..
I never celebrate anything on March 17th because that's the day my Father died. But even when he was alive St Patricks day meant nothing to me , I'm English and proud of it.
I'm not fussed either way to be honest apart from it tends to be a busy period for me musicwise ... do like a pint of Guinness so any excuse
I'm with Billy on this one, why people make a fuss of another countries bank holiday, baffles me. I don't celebrate St Georges day either because he was a ****ing Turk.
I'm with all of these replies...when I lived in the States, used to get on my tits the way they celebrated Paddy's day...a good day for some to collect funds for the IRA..They don't have a clue
I have nowt against the Irish per se, as like every other nationality on earth, they have their good and their bad. However, I can never get my head round seeing all these English people walking around with green hats on etc on St Patrick's Day, and on St George's Day there is nothing..
Nee offence intended marra. If a pub want's to book a band & it happens to be yours, get yourselves in there & make a bit dosh. Nowt wrong with that.
Yes, especially cities like Boston. Did you know that the Provisional IRA's biggest financial donor is the USA? And they are supposed to be our main ally. **** NORAID, they're a bunch of ****ers. Half these fat ****ing Yank sloths couldn't point it out on a world map.
no offence taken mate It would be great to have a celebratory Saint George's Day ... reckoning the music could be more interesting to play too ... then on the other hand ... thank **** for small mercies there isn't a celebratory Saint Andrew's day as I wouldn't fancy playing traditional Scot music tbh
All about knowing your audience mate. If you are playing some St Patrick's gigs jus don't play Tina Turner's Simply the best or there'll be hell on,
Yeah this annoys me as well - even worse was the fact that, until I was in my early 20's, I didn't know when St George's day was but I ALWAYS knew when St Patrick's day was - even at school they peddle the St Patrick's day crap but do very little for our own Saint!! Although I did go out with an Irish girl for a few months - and spent one St Patricks day in Dublin - **** me they know how to party!! Bay city Rollers and Proclaimers mate?????????
They do a parade through Manchester every year, I'm not sure if it's to do with Paddy's day or if it's something totally separate but I love it because they parade right down Cheetham Hill, which is basically the Pakistan-Quarter of Manchester, Burkhas running about everywhere shaking their hands at giant floats and leprechauns running around taking the piss. The 'Locals' ****ing hate it, the fact that essentially there's a big alcohol fuelled piss-fest walking through a strict Muslim area, childish but it tickles me.
...Yes mate..I heard the Rangers fans version of this song when I went to see Sunderland play a friendly there a few years back..Not very complimentary to the Pope or the IRA if I remember correctly...
You have to know them to understand them marra, they're good lads really. I love Glesgae & long to go back but there's nowt up there for me anymore.
