I mentioned this a long time ago. In Arab culture as in other eastern cultures, saving face or being given the opportunity to save face is vital. Assam said "If the fans don't want it we won't do it" in the interview. However "Walking away" means putting the club up for sale. We will find that there won't be a buyer and that they will once again save face by continuing their stewardship "for the people of Hull". There will be more twists and turns and certainly more contradictory statements, lack of clarity, fear-mongering and vague promises.
Can just imagine the question now lol - Would you still buy a season pass and attend games if the club change their name with a view to raising the funds required to continue to build into a premier league club .. Yes or No ...
I do find it quite bizarre that they want to put a gun to the fans heads and say if you don't agree with us changing the name we will walk away, even though in the unlikely event the FA might agree with their application.
Why is it unlikely that the FA agree? Nobody knows what they're looking for in the application. Hopefully its the fans view but you never know
That's because their whole strategy is embarrassingly amateurish and ill-thought out. It is, after all, motivated by hubris and a bizarre attempt to 'upset' an apathetic Hull City Council by differentiating the club's name from the corporation that 'snubbed' their bid to own the stadium. They have painted themselves into a corner, upset thousands of people, got not one word of good publicity, split the fan base, distracted good publicity from the team and tarnished their legacy. In short they have shown themselves to be terrible at running a football club.
I'm fully expecting whatever the wording is for CTWD hacks to be typing up their objection as we speak claiming that the question is not fair, but then will advise all of their members not to abstain. Have their cake and eat it etc.
Anyone in any doubt about their hatred for the Council need only to remember the promotion fiasco. Kept in house as he did not want to take the team around the "City" of Hull and would not let them step out onto a balcony at the "City" Hall. Has there ever been such a situation at any other club and I just bloody hope that should we win the FA cup we do not have the same sorry situation.
I expect the wording of the poll to be clear or it wouldn't be worth presenting it as a supporting argument (even if they could at this stage) I expect some 'other' issues to reach the press to try to sway the vote.
The Council too need to manage this. Show support without seeming like glory hunters or taking the piss. Doing nowt and ignoring the team's achievement is not an option.
I don't think the Allams would have made the moves they have, had Ehab come away with a favourable impression after his meeting with the FA. If they had given the Allams the thumbs up, we wouldn't have had these recent interviews. They are desperately trying to win the silent minority/majority over.
it's been handled badly, very badly but some people are just looking for a way to beat the Allams over the head with this.
Tiger city. My response was that Someone saying. Die when you want to is a posative thing . I guess we ALL want to die when WE want......and not tomorrow....next week ...next month...next year etc. Ignore who said it or why he said it but I hope we can ALL die when we want. Especially every single poster on here ! Hopefully not for years and years and years yet I don't know many on here. BUT YOUR ALL MORE IMPORTANT THEN A BLOODY NAME CHANGE to me.....
Like any campaign CTWD evolved. At the start I said that I would not join because I wanted to remain in a position that allowed me to be involved in a supporters trust. The campaign became linked with protest and at that point I could not become involved even if I wanted to. I did exchange PMs around that time with some posters on here explaining why. Do I sing "City till we die" at 19.04, the answer is sometimes I do and sometimes I don't? Do I wear a no to Tigers badge, yes. Will I join CTWD? No. Would being involved in a protest that is simply seen as wearing a badge or singing a song harm my "job", no, but if for instance I became a member of something like Fathers for Justice, then the reality is yes. The actions of some supporters have been linked with the CTWD campaign and that did actually change from a personal choice. Can I be a member of a protest group, NO not if I want to continue in my wide ranging work.
