Maybe the sensor isn't perfect, but it's still not up to Red Bull to just dismiss it and use their own. Every other team managed fine. There was no choice but to disqualify Ricciardo.
The rules are clear on fuel usage and flow rates Sgt. RBR were given the chance to correct it even when they had gone over the limit during the race, but turned it down. How did they think they were not going to be DSQ when the FIA told them they were in breach and gave them the option to change it!?
lol the speed traps at the next couple of races are going to be hilarious, hopefully they won't start sandbagging during quali and the race already, i wonder who will be more embarrassed, the Mercedes drivers or the Ferrari and Renault ones.
Btw look at when Rosberg set that fastest lap on lap 19 which didn't even get touched all race by the rest... http://www.formula1.com/results/season/2014/914/7317/fastest_laps.html No, way, were, red bull, or, anybody, else close, to, THAT! This is a like a legal Brabham fan car against this lot.
Silver, I don't think correcting this issue is going to cost RBR too much outright pace, if they were more than a couple of percent over the limit then it would have been a much more clear cut decision for the FIA. They must have had engine maps that didn't exceed the flow limit, otherwise they would never have finished the race, so correcting the issue won't hurt reliability.
They must have known that they were quicker using that engine map otherwise they would have changed it when they were told. I think had Ricciardo not been in the podium places and being in his home country they might have corrected it.
Would love to see Kevin or Rosberg win his first world title, the first is always the most enjoyable and emotional for any fan.
I have lost so much respect for Redbull. Don't know about anybody else. No idea how there fanbase is so big.
ah, this looks like an RBR WCC to me, if they're that close with by far the worst engine once they get it sorted they're going to rip the arse out of everyone else.
On tight street circuits they will be #1 but surely they will be mugged at Malaysia Bahrain and China
And I may even put a couple of quid on Kimi being replaced at Ferrari by Hulk mid-season. Really? I would've thought illegal flow rates was right up your alley...
Odds on Red Bull ditching Renault and try to find somebody like Audi to help them? I mean that engine gap is just massive, no way will Red Bull let that sit over another season.
ah, but Renault know there is a problem and are waiting for the chance to improve it, Ferrari are the team in trouble with their engine IMO, because, unlike Renault, they thought their engine was good at the pre season tests.
I think it was arrogance, not necessarily fear, which meant they didn't make the change. I'm obviously speculating, but it must have been the top 1 or perhaps two engine modes that had too high a flow rate, leaving around 8 settings that would be fine. Hulk held up a lot of people early on meaning the top 3 escaped somewhat, so whilst Magnussen may have had him, I still think Ricciardo would have got a podium. I guess the main problem would be the lead time on development. Audi (or anyone else) currently have no known plans to build F1 engines, so they'd have to assemble a team of engineers, design and build an engine in less than 12 months. The current engine manufacturers are much more experienced, had everything in place for development, and had more time. I think the odds on Renault improving are much greater than another manufacturer coming in and being hugely better. The only possible exception to that would be Cosworth, who at least have an engine designed. Red Bull could pass a lot of data to Cosworth to help them develop it further for 2015, to get it to a similar level.
