Now after watching the game today once again the lack of a goal scorer in any mild sort of form was missing, but i would ask or point out that for several games before the xmas period we were lacking ,over xmas and the new year we were lacking into the transfer window and at the end of it we were lacking ,not in numbers but any sort of form from our strikers ,this should have been addressed by the owner/manager in this window, today we saw one terribly out of form replaced by an even worse striker form wise. This distinct problem has been crystal clear from the start of the season it has not appeared over night ,i firmly believe the money should have been spent to lure even a loan player to the end of the season because i just cannot see anything changing in what we have here just now. The inability to win at home against palace shows how toothless we are and how easy it is to come to our ground and not lose.
We are all not happy stu and we understand the reason for it. Let's hang on in and cling to the slim chance of survival.we can do it mate.
but the chance to rectify the biggest problem we have, came and went without being addressed apart from scocco who looks to me every bit as poor as fletch and jozy imo. short term we should have thrown a lot of cash about god knows the cost if we go down
Scocco looks piss weak but all of poyet signings in january have. we just have to hope to stay up but I can't see it.
Boring upfront. He can score goals and he puts the effort in. Fletch either not interested or still injured. Altidore is allegedly a striker so can someone please inform him that scoring goals is the main part of that role. Scocco time will tell. BORINI upfront in a central position is a must in every remaining game this season. The others mentioned please just use as a matter of desperation.
I'm probably going to get slated for this but around this time last year (when in a similar league position) Sessegnon scored opening goals in your wins Newcastle and Everton to secure vital wins. Yesterday he scored for West Brom to help turn that match around and of the three goals he's scored this season they have all been point-winning efforts in games West Brom have got 7 points in. I know he is a very hot and cold player but he is a match winner and surely contributes more than players like Fletcher and Larsson. You look solid defensively most games but lack a cutting edge, I think you would be a few points better off with him and West Brom would have been a few points better off without.
Giach has looked decent every time I've seen him (which admittedly is only 3 or 4 times this season), again he must contribute more than some others. He wasn't even on the bench yesterday was he, must have had a knock surely.
I think I recall Poyet not playing him when he first took the job despite him having looked like one of your better players. Before the derby at your place I was pleased when I saw your team sheet as I thought it was far from your strongest 11 - but you still won. The selections and substitutions of Poyet have often baffled me but he has generally done well with results and is paid to know how to manage a lot better than me so presumably knows a heck of a lot more than me!! For the record I wouldn't say the same about Pardew...
why has the management not seen the bleeding obvious about needing a plan b upfront , however i think jozy will cause a lot of trouble to the norwich pairing at the back with his physical presence as they both seem lightweight but it would mean that our midfield must press and not allow a huge gap inbetween the defence and him ,who knows a midfielder on the score sheet and an away win or draw.
BORINI upfront in a central position is a must in every remaining game this season. The others mentioned please just use as a matter of desperation.
well we are desperate are we not ,i just think that jozy could well have a influence against norwich with borrini getting the rewards of the lay offs and knockdowns ,norwich are weak in the middle at the back .
Play to your strengths. Your strengths going forward are Borini and AJ (with Ki and Giach chipping in) so you either just play those or you play whoever compliments them best (Jozy). It isn't a question of whether Jozy or Fletch are the better player but which system suits the team best and which players fit that system. If Fletch was scoring regularly then yes you would change the plan, but he really isn't.
Jozy is playing to gear up for a huge role this Summer in Brazil, there are quite a few others with a chance to play to earn a shirt and take part in football's biggest international event. We need players to step up! In the past we have had Sessegnon, Jones, Bent, Bardsley and so on come on song, Cattermole has driven the team forward and we have gelled. As for scoring, there's plenty of players there who can put away goals (Ki, Johnson, Gardner, Bardsley), we do not create clear chances, for all our domination and posession yesterday, we carved out very few winning opportunities. Last season, it was Sessegnon more than any other player who stepped up in the last 6-8 games to keep us up. Every relegation team needs a player or two to show a bit of flair and raise the spirits of the others and to create opportunities. We have Giacherini and Johnson in that role (no more Larsson please, no) with Ki and Cattermole as our best central back up, Colback and Bridcutt (still not sure about him, promising though) in the mix for places too. That should be enough to see off most teams around us. Goals win games, it's that simple and the odd fluke, penalty, brilliant individual goal will stave off the precipice, however, I believe the season will be won or lost in the arena of our creative midfield. If we can look every bit as good as Manchester City at Wembley, we can crush teams like Narwich and the Brum, FFS, wake up Sunderland!
Maybe so but I think we need something different up front than fletch or Jozy.borini could be the answer.
