These are the changes I would like to see at Arsenal for next season: 1: Revert to a 4-4-2 system for the majority of games and switch to the more defensive/midfield packing 4-5-1 against the likes of Chelsea, Man U, Man city, Tottenham Etc. Ideally a midfield 4 of Nasri â Wilshire â Fabregas â **New Sighning** and bringing Song in against the tougher and more bullish opposition. 2: Move Walcott to a more advance role to play in front of Van Persie who can adopt the Bergkamp role. Walcott proved last year that his shooting is becoming more composed and clinical with nice tidy finishes against Blackpool, Blackburn, Chelsea and Fulham. Giving him the freedom to roam across the back line will make him much more dangerous and difficult to mark out of the game â which happens fairly regularly marooned on the right wing. He is not an effective winger as he cannot beat a player with skill and his crossing is very hit and miss. Played up top, these failures will become less apparent and important. 3: This may sound daft, but allow the opposition to have the ball more. Its all well and good to have 60-70% possession but if we cannot translate this to goals what is the point? Our players are quick, sharp and bright. Perfect for hitting teams on the break, which we cannot do by sitting so advanced in the opposition half consistently; rather we give the opposition the opportunity to run at our defence, which they do not like! Admittedly this would be hard to implement but a compromise may be to pull the forward line deeper, encouraging the opposition defence to move up. 4: Easy one this one â Samba or similar to be brought in to offset Vermaleanâs sharpness with a dominant aerial presence. 5: Leighton Baines in for Clichy. Clichy has looked out of sorts all year and whilst his defending improved, he offers no benefit when he overlaps on the left wing as his crossing is so dire. Leighton Baines could be just what we need. 6: Hazard may be hard to prise away, but I believe he should be Wengerâs No.1 offensive target. Very direct and great feet he will bring Ronaldo-esque directness to the Emirates. If not then Oxlaid âChamberlain appears to have similar qualities, esp given at how he scared the Utd defence in the FA cup game. 7: If Fabregas does go to Catalonia, then we should settle for nothing less that Villa + cash, assuming Villa would be amenable to such a move, but he made affirmative murmurings about Arsenal when he was at Valencia. 8: Play back-up players their correct positions: Bendtner (if he sticks about) and Chamakh to play through the middle and not stuck out on the wing â Arshavin to be a direct understudy to RVP. I honestly believe we are close to having a great team â a bit more steel in defence, some new, more direct ideas against the teams who camp in their own area, a bit of luck with injuries and moving Denilson and Squilachi on to pastures new and we will be there; not only in the EPL, but in Europe too.
Just because i'm a fantasy football geek. I would personally go with a 4-4-1-1 at home and a 4-2-3-1 Away. Out: Bendtner £10-12 Million Denilson £5 Million Almunia £2 Million Carlos Vela £10 Million - Good young player cant see him adapting to the English game though. Clichy £10 Million In: Eto'o £10 Million. He's a winner, he's experienced and his goal ratio is still fantastic. Neven Subotic £12 Million - Tall, strong but technical. Would work well at Arsenal. Gary Cahill £15 Million - Strong, aggressive, quick. Good old fashioned defender. Schwarzer £2 Million - Would be a worthy back up. Home: (4411) ---------------------Sczezney---------------------- Sagna-----Subotic---------Cahill------Vermaelen Walcott------Fabregas-------Wilshere-----Nasri -------------VanPersie -------------------Eto'o Away: (4231) ---------------------Sczezney---------------------- Sagna-----Subotic---------Cahill------Vermaelen --------------Song--------Wilshere---------------- Nasri--------------Fabregas-------------VanPersie --------------------Eto'o----------------------------
I disagree in fact I think it would work well. Wilshere has bags of energy he's quick and he can tackle. If England can get Wilshere and Lampard to work at International level. Fabregas and Wilshere would be a decent partnership.(Fabio Capello seems to think a more withdrawn Pirlo-esque position would be best for the little man) Also Height wouldnt be an issue when playing in front of the back four i posted.
I'd do this..... ---------szneznkenkenkensky Sagna-Kossy--Djourou--tommy V--Clichy --------Song---Wilshere Nasri-------RVP--------Fabregas
without a holding midfielder i think arsenal would struggle. wilshere would do a decent job but he much prefers to get forward and against your yaya toures, his height is a big disadvantage. with an alonso-like player i think you could make the 4-3-3/4-5-1 work but only with a new cb and a proper back up for glass anckles rvp
Arsenal are Spineless. Whatever Wenger does or doesn't do, this is what is needed. Experienced Goalkeeper Experienced Commanding Centre Half Experienced Disciplined Unambitious Defensive Midfielder Experienced Quick and Robust Centre Forward And when I say Experienced, I mean in the English game.
Personally I would do this. Stay at 4-3-3 as its the formation that fits the majority of our players Buy Samba and Cahill - Both are experienced in the english game and are both exactly what we need. Then one of them goes in next to Tommy V with the other pressing against there heels. Buy Baines from Everton and sell Clichy - Baines would love the step up and i think a move to arsenal would be great for him! This might be controversial - but i would sell Fabregas - the guy wants to play for barcelona so sell him get the £35 million take a couple of players from the youth team - i'm sure wengers got his eye on a few. I would then use the the Fabregas money to buy Parker and Rodwell. Parker to be our DCM but he could help rodwell be rodwells mentor (as remember rodwell is still new to the position having only moved there only recently) I would alos then move Nasri inside to play alongside Wilshere As for the front line - someone to help RVP is a must - but i'm not convinced eto is that man - great player but would cost a lot of money but the player we bring in needs to have premiership exp - maybe some like forlan or someone in that mould?? So my lineup for the opening day would be --------Szecny---------- Sagna-Samba-TV-Baines --------Parker----------- ----Wilsher----Nasri----- Walcott---------Arshavin ---------RVP------------ Whats anyone else think?
-----Szecny----- -------TV------- ----Wilshere----- -------RVP------ Just to give the rest a fair chance of beating us
This team would allow us to be more competitive all over the field and we wouldnt go to places like stoke and blackburn and be kicked off the park like we have for years because we were too light weight through the middle So what would you do?...
At the start of the season there were loads of manager saying how we couldn't be bullied anymore. The problem is down to mentality rather than players I feel. Besides the players you have mentioned may be tougher but are not as good as what we already have.
i would take a Samba - TV as our center halves over squillaci - djourou any day (nothing against djourou as i actually thought he was one of our best players last year) Parker would give us the discipline in the DM role that sometimes song lacked for big parts of the season and would I like fabregas to leave - no - but he wants to play for Barca so let him and give nasri his wish to play in the middle of the park with wilshere. The players might not be as good technically but we would be more of a well rounded team and more difficult to beat as well as make us more consistant
Parker isn't a Defensive Midfielder, he can play there, but he is a box2box-er Not the solution for you positionally, but character-wise, a big step in the right direction. You will have to watch Samba, he is perfect in terms of his attributes, big strong aggressive, attacks the ball, massively determined, pretty much everything you lack at the back, but... He is absolutely bonkers. Bling-tastic to the max and then some, I wouldn't let him loose in London for a weekend, never mind a whole year. Cahill would be more expensive, but without doubt the right Player for you.
I like the idea of playing a 442 at home and a 433/4231 away but we don't have the right midfielders for it. Wilshere and Ramsey look like good box to box midfielders who could play in a 442 in a few years (not together of course) but as long as Song is our sole DM we can't play 442 as he isn't really mobile enough. Someone like Flamini would be perfect in a 442.
Whenever I have seen Nasri in the middle he has been ineffective and not very dangerous. Fabregas is twice the player Nasri is in the middle. We sell Cesc and put Samir in his position and we will definitely get weaker as a whole.
