Its not just the current economic situation that is stopping many once attendees from coming to game sits the fact they have come to the conclusion that no matter what, SAFC will always just be 2nd class. Selling JH reaffirms that theory to them and trying to get the likes of N'Gog and an unknown South Korean isn't going to change that perception.

If a new landlord takes over an ailing pub, the sign quickly goes up to tell everyone that there are new owners. People who may well have once attended that pub will go back to see how things have changed but if the beer is still flat, the food still tasteless, no amount of good PR and promotion will save the pub long term. A little bit of decoration can quickly be seen through by a wily punter and Quinny has dressed SAFC up very nicely in the last 5 years. However, selling Henderson and Bent (whatever reason he wanted to go, the fact is he wanted to go after only 12 months) and replacing them with 2nd rate players isn't going to cu the mustard.

For many, the owners have changed but SAFC's beer is still very flat and the food quite tasteless.

Maybe it s the Chef to blame?

finishing tenth failure(LMAO), go and ask the Blackpool, West Ham and Birmingham fans if they would regard 10th position as failure?

Sunderland, ultimate yo-yo club - finishing tenth and its being regarded as failure, deluded or what.

All the clubs will be equal when the season starts, yet some followers appear to have written us off already.

I just wish not606 had been about when we were in the third division - I could not imagine what some of the "alternative supporters" would describe our position as if tenth in the premiership is regarded as a failure.

They should put a Sunderland scarf around their neck, stand in front of a mirror and have a bloody good look at themselves.

    Well done <applause>
One sentence taken out of context, dear me!

    The full paragraph was this.
"The passion is leaving the support, the lads he was paying the entrance money for were up for it, but were then served **** on the pitch.

You take away these young lads passion, the right to have a go at players who aren't trying, the right to jump about like mad things when we score.
You take away those things and you have nothing.
May as well watch it in a bar somewhere."

Suddenly doesn't look the same in context with what I wrote.

    Cestriamackem.

What are your standards then? God knows how you have supported Sunderland for the last 10 years then? No I didn't mention the 5-1, it's obvious enough. So what do you expect? Champions league or something?

Answer this honestly, what did you want out of last season? The worst thing Bruce done was have such a great start to the season, because he then gets idiots like yourself who think that we can achieve stupid things. Why don't you manage Sunderland?

Cestriamackem leads sunderland to Europe! Haha. The funny thing is, you probaly think you could.

So you are saying we should just accept it?

I was there in the old 3rd division days and we cheered them off to a man, not because of the brilliant football but because of the effort they had put in.

    Mackemsrule.

So all you needed was a COMFORTABLE finish to keep you happy? What have you got a dodgy heart or something? Ha. No need to lie, you wanted Europe, because what is the difference of or comfortable or not comfortable place in the top 10, it's still top 10 lol, you don't get an award for the comfort! Just such a stupid thing to say. So deluded you are

I'm not getting personal mate. <ok>
You posted one sentence out of context that made me look like a fool.
Whether that was your intent or not.
My point still stands, the way to get people out of the bars, is to get some passion back into the stadium.
To do that has to start on the pitch and in the squad.
Some of the ones in the bars will never go to the stadium even if it was free that's just the way it is.
But to get the waverers onboard has to start with the team we put out.
Give them something to get excited about.

Your problem is a basic lack of intelligence isn't it? I have supported them for 36 years. In my youth, such disappointments were dealt with much more easily as youthful optimism replace rational thought. As you mature in life, you stop just accepting failure as easily and question things as you see them if you believe they are not right.

You say Bruce's biggest mistake was having a good start to the season? Stop me here if its getting to technical for you but isn't that what he is paid £2.5m a year for? To get such results? What was his excuse for failing at Wigan at the same time of the season prior to his joining us? What excuses did you come up with for him in the previous season when we went 14 games without a win after Christmas?

11 games and 3 points is a worse record than Mick McCarthy's 15 point shambles and you think that was okay do you?

My standards are given 36 points in January to not be involved in a relegation scrap at the end of the season. You obviously have a very low esteem and have no expectations in life other than thanks for just letting me be here. I have much higher expectations for the club and reserve the right to say so.

Its all about ambition. I have lots of it for the club and feel aggrieved when they fail so badly. You obviously have no ambition for SAFC and are quite happy to see us struggle.

As some one said earlier, opinions are like arseholes and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.

Yours certainly have the whiff of horse ****e chum.

BTW - dont bother replying with a whole load of mindless bollocks and insults, as I am going out for the eveing with my daughter and wont be engaging you for an evenings slagging. I also wont bother to read any response on my return, so keep your pwder dry for the next time you want to debate your mindless mediocrity.

"seems like another thread about to reach the point of no-return, and without any mag help"

I was just expressing an opinion as to why the thread reaches the point of no return.

Criticism of the club will result in a slanging match, it happens time and time again, now why is that??

Just close the thread down - its been done to death "alternative supporters" v "the loyal supporters" or "happy clappers" or "blinkered" or whatever insult Cest feels like chucking at us today.

Only a matter of time before he erupts like an icelandic volcano spewing obscenties all over the place.

Apologies mate and to Syd. <ok>
Wasn't expecting abuse for talking about my kids disenchantment.

Or feeling the need to defend my health problems with some keyboard warrior.

Is another description of an alternative fan, one that is simply sick and tired of absolute failure at the club and mediocrity dressed as success being touted as achievement?

You are welcome to that stance but for many we just want to see the clubs ambitions matching our own for once. We escaped relegation this season by the skin of a fly's cock AGAIN. Finishing 10th was a fluke and to cling to that as a sign of progress is merely ignoring the truth. We were 2 results away from playing Cardiff next season and since that, we have sold one of our best young players and bought Muhammady.

You may think thats wonderful too. Not everyone does.

    Ok makemsrule
Nothing i said was meant to offend you or your son i have a boy of 26 myself and he also thinks they are ****e but he still supports them fortunately he lives in London and has an excuse not to go.
I am also not trying to defend the team as some of the poor performances have been dire (stoke and Wolves away for me as well as both derby games)
We have just achieved our longest spell in the top flight and not had to worry about last day relegation for two years
To me this is progress whether anyone likes it or not and ill back Short Quinn and Bruce untill things start to deteriorate.

    No harm or offence meant

Cest, I do not think its wonderful, I just do not think it is as black as you are painting it.

You do not have a glass half empty mentality, your glass has been knocked onto the floor and smashed into a thousand pieces.

"10th position" and "skin of a flys cock" don't quite add up, unless you have big fly's up in Chester le Street.

You should be careful you do not get what you wish for, ask the Villa fans, they played their joker in vetoing McClaren only to get David Caruso look a like.
