Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger repeated his criticisms of Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben, who earned his side a spot kick last night - just as he did in the first leg.

"Robben is very good at getting the maximum of nothing," said Wenger. "He is a great player and as well a very good diver, but it is part of it.

"He is a fantastic player, I would not deny that, he's one of the best players in the world. But he gets in front of a player and then he slows down and goes down. He gets the free-kicks."

Personally I'm with Wenger here. It's time to name and shame diving cheats in the game. Some of the diving committed by some of the Bayern players were simply disgraceful. These are some of the best and most talented players on the planet, yet they feel the need to fall over like they've been snipered by Lee Harvey Oswald. I wish the powers at be could find ways to minimise these dastardly acts in football.

Almost every forward in the PL gets in front of players and slow down in one game or another.

The antics of Chelsea make Bayern look like saints. Diving is a curse but atm refs just can't do anything about it.

But they can. He told Robben to get up after the first dive in the box, which was a blatant dive. He should have given him a straight yellow and that would have cleared his behaviour right up.

By the way, your signature footer is great!

that dive definitely deserved a yellow the tone was very much set to keep trying once no card was shown

Alot of forwards dive but to be honest Robben is the worst.

    He has mastered the art.

If he runs inside the defender he will curl a shot across goal if he is forced to the outside generally he will run at the defender and look for contact. For me he's the only forward where you are pretty much certain he will go down if there's any real contact. I f**king hate him.

As someone who has trained combat sports/martial arts for most of my life I find it really embarassing to watch players do this. Football is fast becoming a non-contact sport.

    This <ok>

The ref should have shown Robben a yellow and warned him that he would be off if he dived again. ****ing odious little cheat that he is.

they should use the snick thing from cricket to see if there is contact and how much.
if no contact then red card for diving as its cheating, followed by 2 match ban ban and further 3 match ban as a penalty for cheating in trying to get a penalty.

if minimal contact then red card for cheating, followed by 2 match ban.

if proper contact then defender gets sent off and he gets ban so this is only fair.

diving is cheating as its trying to get unfair advantage from penalty and also trying to get defender sent off. if divers were sent off and banned they would stop doing it.

would also like to see all the wrestling at corners and free kicks dealt with also.

i hate Robben as he is just a cheat. AW summed him up perfectly.

I'd like to see heavier punishments for diving and cheating. I think video technology needs to be used here as the pressure on refs is immense as it is and they don't always have the best angle or the ability to see the incidents in slow motion.

I'm not entirely sure how it could be implemented, but I'd like to see something like you suggest. 3 match ban for those who are guilty of diving in the area to try and win pens and get the defender sent off.

I'd also like to see the rule changed about the last defender being sent off if the foul is committed in the box. If he's prevented a clear goal scoring chance, then the award of a pen rectifies this. Awarding a pen and sending the player off is a double punishment and it kills the game, esp if it's the keeper, like Szczesny v Bayern in the first leg.

If the clear goal scoring foul is committed outside of the box, then a red card is justified.

P.S. did I mention that Robben is a ****ing cheating little **** ?

I'm with you all on this one. As big a disgrace as Robben is, I blame the officials and their superiors just as much. Players cheat because it's too their advantage. If you penalize a type of cheating harshly enough, people will stop trying to cheat in that particular way. Institute something like retroactive red cards and two match bans for diving, as some of you have suggested, and Robben and others will quit going down easier than Juarez hookers, and the game will be considerably improved.

I'm a fickle **** when it comes to football. If we signed Robben he'd be instantly forgiven.

I remember advocating for Arsenal to bid for Suarez long before the debacle of last summer and I can't remember one response that wasn't saying 'No way would I have that cheating **** at Arsenal' or words to that effect. But as soon as we'd made a bid, everybody was clamouring for him to become an Arsenal player.

It's quite staggering how quickly people will change their tune once a player pulls on the shirt for their club, I make no bones about it, I'd do it too. I would have loved Suarez at Arsenal and I'd take Robben in a heartbeat.

Look at the spuds, they were defending Bale's cheating for years when everybody else could see that he was a blatant diver. I even remember them coming up with an excuse that he only dives to try and avoid a heavy tackle <laugh> So it shows you the lengths fans will go to to defend the indefensible.

wtf has your post got to do with anything. answer is no. he will still be an integral part of our team.

are any of Spuds flops off to PSG ? answer no, as PSG have more sense that to waste large amounts of money on dross.

having spent best part of £120 million how much do you hope to recoup from your flops when they all go, bearing in mind it will be a fire-sale, will you get £60 million back ? not bad work for the agents but pretty piss poor work by your chairman Levy.

exactly my point. all players are cheats when playing for other teams, yet we seek to defend them if they are ours. we all feel bad when we are cheated and so do other fans when it happens to them. we all agree that refs are ****ing useless in their handing out of equal measures of punishments, so we need a panel of "experts" to give restrospective punishment. if this was brought in with severe sanctions such as 5/10 match bans then all cheating would be eradicated. the panel could look at diving, feigning injury, shirt pulling and blocking at free kicks and corners. they would be able to change the result of games, but i would feel a lot better if we lost to a Robben type dive and gift of penally and keeper off scenario knowing that the **** would be banned for 10 games. he would have to stay on his feet, and would be such a better player. defenders would have to improve the timing of their tackles but they will know that at least if they touch someone they won't go down like they have just been shot.
football is a contact sport ffs. loot at the red card that carol got for touching Florez who then went down like a ****ing pansy. what a lemon. i remember the time when Stuart Physco Pearce tried to run off a broken leg ! he must weep when he sees some of these so called fouls and injuries.
