Absolute bollocks! Arsenal may well have finished 5th the year before Wenger came. However, they never seriously challenged for the title, or ever looked likely to. Within a year, they were champions ( something we've not achieved since before most of you were born!) they subsequently went on to win it twice more. How does that compare to our record under Levy? Ok, they have won nothing since, but they have unfailingly qualified for the CL every year, reached the final once, and currently play the sort of football I would love to see us play.
They had won the League twice in the 6 years before Wenger. It is quite normal for Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool and Everton to win the League. Spurs are starting from a much lower base and Levy is the only Chairman in our history to have presided over 4 consecutive top 5 finishes. But don't let facts get in the way of denigrating Levy. Of course he has made mistakes but generally there has been a gradual improvement
Considering the money spent, we have achieved relatively nothing! Levy has presided over the appointment of Gross ( wonder who paid for his tube ticket?) Santini, Ramos, and AVB. All unmitigated disasters. The only two half way decent managers we've had we got by default - Jol & Redknapp. Now to cap it all, he appoints Tim, not so nice, but dim. Meanwhile, Arsenal qualify regularly for the CL, have won the league 3 times, cup 4 times. All under one manager. As I have said before, I accept that Levy has done well for the club financially, however his appointments have been disastrous. By the way, Everton last won the league 27 years ago, and Liverpool 24 years ago!. Only people of my age can remember the last time we won it.
f**k me! Are you Levy's PR man, or something? What are you trying to prove on this site? Levy has proved his incompetence more than his supposed genius (which is all media spin, in any event). Who are you trying to convince? We can all see that Levy is out of his depth, when it comes to competing with the likes of Arsenal, 'Pool, or Chavs. Please don't try and tell us any different, because it simply is not going to wash. We all took the piss out of 'Pool, but they have a chairman that saw what none of us could in Rodgers. Those Yanks have been around in the EPL five minutes, yet they've pulled one over on (so-called "astute") Levy. FFS! WAKE UP!
I'm not trying to prove anything. But it is factually true that no Spurs chairman has had Spurs finishing consistently in the top 4. His disastrous appointment of AVB got us our maximum league points ever. Do we expect miracles?
Correction! Gareth Bale got us our maximum league points ever!...once he went, we saw that "the king" had no clothes!..
Yes he was a disaster too - got us go 3rd in the league and the cup final. Wouldn't want that sort of a failure anywhere near the club
No mention of the reason he resigned? Or the fact he stopped Hoddle signing Eto!? Pleat having a good season in the 80's doesn't make him someone to trust on football matters. Ferguson is Britain's most successful manager but recommended David Moyes which shows you that being a great football manager doesn't translate to offering sound advice in another role, although Pleat was never a great football manager and recommended Sherwood, the person you said '' I don't know what Levy was thinking by appointing him '' well your mate Pleat was happy to recommend Sherwood.
While I think of it, I thought the players tried hard against Benfica, as they haven't done too many times this season. From there it was one part Tim setting us up wrong to two parts Benfica being a much better team: a very tightly parked bus defending, combined with fast counters and good set piece attacking and defending, and you have a team that would give anyone trouble. Credit to Benfica.
Levy has done well for us financially but is a ****ing disaster with the managerial side...hhe should only be allowed to deal with transfer sales and buys as long as the manager choses who goes and stays
Adebayor and Paulinho injured. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...risis-ahead-of-europa-league-tie-9200566.html Guess we're going "bare bones" again.
I'd rather send the kids out there anyway, Benfica are awesome at home and I couldn't see our strongest XI clawing back the deficit, give the kids a bit of European experience and let the first team try and reclaim a bit of dignity with the remaining Prem games.
It's only half-time... Someone might have a Bale-like performance; earn an early penalty or free kick on the edge of the box. Hopefully that someone plays for Spurs and not Benfica. I'm not willing to write the game off before the whistle has been blown, but yeah, our realistic chances aren't the best.
Not sure I agree sending a bunch of kids where they face likely annihilation, is the best tactic for developing the kids!
No, but we have to put a side out and they are the only ones available. Friedel Naughton Fryers Vela? Rose Lennon Sandro Eriksen Townsend Siggurdson Soldado ? So
