Well, I think it's a 'wait and see' to see how much ambition Cardiff have. If they give him this reported £20m transfer kitty, bringing in Bellamy etc, then you kind of can't blame the guy as it's obvious Cardiff are pushing for a place where every manager wants to be.

As for Watford - the new board and the old board seem to have the same ambition. To survive as an ongoing entity, trying to produce our own players while selling the 'crown jewels' each season just so we still have a football team to compete the next!

Bas isn't the great hope we want or need, but at least he was willing to try and do something about it. LA would have been doing just the same, selling players to minimise his losses and debt!

I agree, it is the manner in which the person leaves. MM signed his contract which signaled his intent to stay at the club, but then a few months later he jumps at the chance to move to a new club. He did not even do us the courtasy of saying thanks or even say, i quite like the look of cardiff so might move. He just went on holiday and then showed his hand to bassini. Tommy did not go straight to Qpr did he, he went to portsmouth first, which for him at the time was a good move to get premiership football regularly, which is the same as DG going to swansea, he made it clear he wanted to play int he prem. JB and SLB are the same, they make a big step up to their respective clubs, MM simply does not get that.

I think the last nail in the coffin for Malky was the decision to allow Saracens back for one more season?

That and being told how much out of the 4.5m player sales he was going to get to spend on the team.

Ambition - yes Malky has ambition - but it's going to be a good few years before we at Watford can compete again at a championship winning level and it's clear now he saw that stark reality. Good luck to him.

The signing of a contract does not mean they are promising to see it through. It is an agreement between the two parties. If either party wants out they can be forced to see it through, or more likely, the remaining party receives compensation for the destruction of the contract. When a player signs a new contract I don't think "Great, he'll be a Hornet for the next three years", I think, "Great, if he goes soon we'll get more money for him 'cause he's on a longer contract. If he stays great, if he goes we get serious money". More worrying that they see the contracts through in some ways because then you get nowt for them.

Maybe MM felt this was his chance to take on a bigger job and didn't want to let it by.

Its disappointing in a sense but then we've be suggesting taking managers from other clubs lower down since...
