Seriously, is Cameron a UK PM or an Israeli one? Hard to tell with his rhetoric, he talks of rockets when a Palestinian judge and a goat herder tending his goats have both been murdered by the IDF this past two weeks.

The kosher food issue is an interesting one, I think the way both the Jewish and Islamic way of killing animals in pretty sick to be honest and I can see why a lot of people think it should be banned on animal welfare grounds. Denmark recently banned it saying that animal rights should come before religion and shock horror they got accused of being anti semetic.

Another thing is it's clearly very traumatic for the animal and the meat would have adrenalin in it from the animal struggling before its death which make the meat tougher and taste a lot worse.

So is this about terrorism or animal rights? <laugh>

Rub, that is why Kobe beef is the best, they massage and massage and make the animal comfortable and the beef then becomes just succulent................. and ****ing expensive!

Im no animal rights activist but in this day and age with all the political correctness floating around im surprised more goverments of civilised nations have not banned that way of killing animals, in all honesty I just find it hard to comprehend why they would ruin some good meat like that <laugh>

I'm no activist, but all ethical issues provoke a response in me.
Religious practices should only be allowed if they don't contravene the law of the land. I imagine the kosher method breaks a number of rulings on the ethical treatment of animals so should be banned, imo.
Cue another forty pages of religious "debate". <laugh>

The site is pretty idle since luv tore the heart out of it.

Somebody with more seniority should think of opening a new OT thread for lofty discussions but ask for a few guidelines to be respected. Number one, no intellect or character insulting adjectives. Number two, posts to be limited to 7 rows (rambling on and on - we couldn't understand each other most of the time.) Smb wanna do that?

Double standards. If some witch-doctor from Africa came here and demanded the right to sacrifice goats and import bush meat, such as bonobos or baboons, the Mail, Sun and the Tory party would go ****ing mental. The whole issue of slaughtering animals makes me think of going back to being a veggie though, but I accept that if we want to feed the planet (especially growing kids) meat has a part to play. Can't accept that slaughter can be done in any way to appease Stone-Age strictures though, any more than blinding people or cutting the hands off thieves for robbing a loaf of bread to feed their family.

So thanks for raising the topic again David. I too have distant Jewish ancestry, but I don't think any group has the right to torture animals to death for the sake of ancient rituals.

Ps, Are we as a species a natural omnivore such as a bear, or a herbivore such as a gorilla, but us and our chimpanzee cousins supplement it with 'opportunistic' meat? I remember seeing somewhere that our gut is not designed to constantly process meat such as a lion or a wolf.

i vaguely remember something on this lol.

we are carnivores but not in the sense of a lion etc as isnt our jaw structure only designed to process food in a limited way ie what teeth we was given, ie lions teeth are designed to break down bone structure and they have more force in their jaw structure for crushing and have the teeth needed to accomplish this.

typing this realized we cant process sweetcorn properly ie vegetable, as it comes out the same way it went in lol so we are probably in the middle some where.

not sure on the not designed to constantly process meat part as i thought there was people who ate just meat or vegetables and have been fine, not a great diet, but you can survive on just either.
