Not at all. I was in the pro Powell camp, but sadly after the applause it did feel like that was it, and the realisation that we sadly have to move on. I'm unhappy with it, but we just have to get behind the new man and more importantly the team. We all have a job to play to ensure safety, so will just have to get on to it.

Yeah Ponders, but he signed them as he had a zero budget to buy decent players. Do you think he really would have picked a couple of freebies like that up if he'd had a bit of cash to splash. Let's try and remember Powell had two years living on a shoestring budget.

Surely not double standards or were you afraid of being hit over the head by a pensioner with flask full of Bovril!

A mark of respect for Powell's overall service to the Club.

I would have clapped even harder if we had Dave Jones or Malky McKay in our dug out.

Most managers at the bottom have to look through the bargain bin, but some are better at it than others.

If the new man gets Bumblefoot and Sordell firing, then we will know for good if CP's training and tactics were at fault. Agreed?

Much better performance last night, best I've seen us since Boxing day, shame we couldn't get a goal. Huddersfield came for the draw and got it, unfortunatelty Sordell couldn't take his chance in the 2nd half after the excellent ball from Poyet. Reza could have scored but bloody Sordell got in the way of it.

Big 10 days or so coming up with Millwall and 2 home games, 5/6 points needed IMO.

Hearing Riga's post match interview, he's already warmed to me. Not only does he speak English, but he also somehow seems to look like he knows what he's doing. Me liking him will still hinge on if he plays the Liege players.

Defo warmed to him though, and will of course back the team and hope to god he keeps us up. If we go down, there is no doubt we will become a feeder club. If we stay up and a solid investment in the summer we could push for promotion. And if we get promoted I have a feeling RD will start to pay more attention to us rather than Liege. We need to stay up though to see if I'm right.

If we go down, at £16m(?) we will be the world's most expensive feeder club. How many Champions League players have come through at League 1 level recently?

The panic amongst fans and the press regarding this 'feeder-club' nonsense is starting to irritate!

I am glad to see that you eventually managed to understand my analogy or if you have still failed to do so that you have an element of human decency.

No just how many champions league players, but we will be given European players who aren't up to the English leagues and then expected to have them played and they'll be useless... do you want to see Thuram in goal every week when we have Hamer (and by all accounts Nick Pope who is making great progress) not being played?

We aren't only a feeder club to buy players from, but also a club where we get rejects from Standard Liege, which lets face it, may be top of the Belgium prem but that's hardly one of the toughest leagues in Europe.

RD has not just spent £16m on CAFC to use as a dumping ground for players that dont make it at Liege. If that was the plan, why not buy a club already in League 1 for a fraction of the £?

English football is where the money is long term, and I am convinced the tables will be turned (with regards priority club). Don't forget Belgium is the easiest route for African players to get EU citizenship.....Liege could simply end up as a tool for Charlton to get the next Lukaku, Drogba etc without the work permit issues.

I hope so, but if we go down and lose 9 of our stating 11 (Wiggins and Cousins under contract) how much will he invest into the team to get us back out? When he could for free send his players from other clubs, Nego is crap, Thuram is crap, Reza is crap at times, Astrid is the only decent one, Polish Pete had excitement about him but where is he? Anil Koc... well... name says it all. We need investment, and if we go down RD won't put money into us, he'll just send us more rejects from his teams all over Europe. We stay up, it will be different, we go down, we are in the brown stuff.

Hopefully I'm wrong and being a charlton fan since I was about 8 has clearly made me as cynical and pessimistic as they come

Seems the affection is two-way. Not that there is anything wrong with that, of course.

Of course we are in trouble if we get relegated, but that would be the case whoever the manager / coach / owner. Promotion is by no means guarenteed however much money is thrown at it, but why wont he put money in to get us back up (should we go down)? I seriously believe that the Premiership is where RD sees his return on investment where he can either sell up and walk with tidy profit, or as mentioned above turn the tables and try to push Charlton on.

I think his overall philosophy is not to throw money, many clubs each year gamble on that big payday - so you have to do it cutely.

Nego has played 90 minutes in a Charlton Shirt so should not be judged (remember Wiggins' debut?), Reza is crap at times but looks lively at others (Church is crap, runs a lot, but I wouldnt describe him as lively)...and seems to be the only intelligent striker we have - I think goals will come.

Astrid is a seriously good footballer and needs to be signed up for next season.

Adequate first-half but failed to score because we have a powder-puff attack without Kermorgant. Dropped off badly in the second half, which is something we will see happening earlier and earlier in futures games as our team of kids, semi-crocks, and frail continentals are obliged to play two games a week for eight weeks and no reserves of any real quality to come in.

We may see the famed "new manager" effect for two or three more games but it will soon wear off like it always does, after which I foresee a string of capitulations. Usually those players wanting to better themselves might put in a shift to impress prospective new employers, the way Stephens belatedly started to perform when he realiised the January window was approaching, but now they have a cast-iron excuse for protecting themselves from injury in games. No-one is going to be deterred from signing Morrison, Hamer, Wilson, Harriott, Cousins or Poyet just because they don't give 100% in the present shambles.

A point at home against a team which was hardly trying won't keep us up. But I think last night was about as good as it will get as successive players, even from this mediocre team, drop out through injuries, howver minor. Only a few weeks ago, under CP's management, we beat Huddersfield away in a match in which they were trying very hard indeed.

Agree with Touchy-Feeley in regards to the Feeder club panic talk that appears to be gripping other forums... Unfortunately we do just need to wait and see what happens (especially that bloke in the East Stand last night who was berating the players for being Standard Liege Reserves / being annoyed with the lack of effort at Sheff Utd... although did enjoy it when Ajdarevic turned round and pretty much gesticulated towards him to shut up)

First Half was much improved and was nice to see the ball played around as its where our best moves came from (every time it was lumped forwards it just came back which was annoying to watch)... Second Half was a case of that, although I dont think the quick tempo in the first half helped and tiredness had crept in (as Riga highlighted)... Got home from the match and managed to catch Riga on Sky Sports News and liked what I heard from him to be honest.

A few observations on some players...

Poyet... In sending Sordell through is one of the passes of the season
Sordell... was greatly impressed with him (although cheesed off he couldnt perform like for Powell) and if he keeps up that work rate then I'd happily keep him
Reza... Like how he keeps trying (Your Goal will come... three on Saturday in fact) although is selfish in the wrong areas and holds on to the ball too long at the moment
