Sky pull another new name out of the bag and unless hes posturing there seems to be something in it, hopefully not a snag in the Hobbs deal. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_6995119,00.html
"Kovacevic is available on a free transfer after leaving Dundee United at the end of last season following an injury-hit campaign." Oh, that sounds new and promising
He's only 23, can play CB (6 foot 4) and RB. Won the Scottish Cup, but the knee issue is a question. The free transfer would appeal to us, although NP knows Hobbs if Leicester want more than the reported £800k then we may decide to look elsewhere..
He certainly seems to have had a nightmare this season, though he did turn out for Dundee United 31 times the previous season. Seems an odd one, I've never heard of the bloke, he hails from Switzerland apparently.
I often see the words trial and trail interchanged on forums but obviously it doesn't take much (probably some nepotism or a big rack) to become a journalist these days.
I think Walsh does his homework and probably contacts tens (if not hundreds) of players every window (obviously via their club). It's just statistically likely that some of these approaches become public, for the benefit of the player/agent negotiating, but it doesn't mean these players are necessarily 1st, 2nd or even 3rd choice signings. People seem to read far too much into these leaks.
I see us only moving for Hobbs permenantly (out of him, Gerrard and Ayala), so a move for someone like Kovacevic would be good as he can cover CB and FB, a quick google leads to some good reviews, a part from his injuries that is. Can't imagine he'd be on massive wages, get him in for a trial/medical and check him out, still young too!
Mihael Kovačević Seems interesting, but I think this is his agent just using us to generate interest again.
Just because we have had problems in the past with injury prone players doesn't mean this guy will. One thing we can say about him is that he has one things, which is alot more than we can say for most players in the championship under 24. Personally I think he will be a good addition to the squad and i trust that Pearson and his assistants will make a good decision.
2008-09 made 49 apperances, 2009-10 38 apperances, then a knee injury. Anyone can pick up a knee injury, its the recovery that is important. He is the right age for us, a decent footballer who can cover RB, free, and if we offer a low wage then pay as you pay bonus, he could be a decent signing. Sure that Pearson and Walsh will have done there homework and will check him out fully. Still certai we will get Hobbs and Ayala, this guy would be back up giving us Dudgeon/Dawson Chester/Cooper Ayala/Hobbs Roseinor/Kovacevic Decent enough defence I think
Looks a decent enough player and would certainly add height to the team. Did he play in the Dundee United friendly at the KC last year? If he is available on a free, it could be very tempting indeed.
Got to wonder about the quality of any signings from Scotland given that their league is so crap. Stuart Elliot did the job for us but that was League One and below. Probably would give this guy a miss with his injury record, his agent angling for exposure here like the other comments suggest.
I agree to a point, but I wouldn't want to see us avoiding all players who've been injured. As some people have said, he's not injury prone, he's had an injury, and it's been a big one. But that could happen to any signing. Look at Stewart, Mannone or Hunt. Not saying this guy should be signed or shouldn't be, but we'd be ruling out a pretty big pool of talent if we avoided players recovering from injury. They're often the ones with the most to prove.
He isn't injury prone, he just had one injury that kept him out for a while. At that age he will bounce back. As for players from Scotland, it doesn't matter about the standard of league. The fact is he stood out and the ones that do best are usually snapped up. Dundee Utd aren't a bad side, they just play in a bad league and are probably on a par with most Championship clubs. You could be a quality foreign player who slipped under the radar and because of that are signed up by a lesser club; it doesn't make you any less of a player. A lot of foreign players see the SPL as a stepping stone to England. Moragro Gomis has just signed for Brum, he is talented and will do well there.
Sounds like our kind of guy, he has had a serious knee injury... Looks like Simon Maltby will be working some overtime next season!
No idea about the bloke, or how bad his knee injury may affect his future but i am abit sick of NP and Walsh know stuff, they will have checked him out etc etc FFS they paid out 1.2 million for Aaron Mclean. He has been a ****in disaster.
