As much as i hate Mourinho's actual personality the thing he does best as a manager is he takes the pressure and spotlight off his players. This allows them to express themselves on the pitch without fear and play to close to their potential. You would never get him criticising the dressing room. Criticising the dressing room as a manager is just another way of saying "i'm not in control/doing my job/respected/etc".
As he had not been manager of Spurs before there are no 'facts' only speculation based on his previous work, as is the case with any new appointment. Judgements are made when employing anybody in a new post but nobody can know until the candidate has spent some time doing the job. This is why I supported AVB in the beginning but changed my mind as his work panned out. I think with Sherwood we are beginning to see the problems associated with his management but it is still far from conclusive, if for example he gets good results against Benfica and Arsenal all changes again. On the other hand, poor performances in these two games ( performances not results) and the writing is on the wall. Of course his fate may already be decided if Spurs really are pursuing Van Gall or somebody similar. So my original point stands (for me at least) to judge Sherwood before he had started the job is prejudice (literally Pre - Judged.)
There where too many issues for an inexperienced manager to fix in half a season and if Sherwood was manager next year and same issues have arisen, then sure, no hiding place but be realistic as our club and chairman tend to place unrealistic expectations on the manager so as fans we should try think differently. Anyway, its only the one heavy defeat and that was after a red card, but the same things where said about the players after losing to Man City and Liverpool so that should tell us its deeper then just the manager this year.
No King I am not saying that. I am saying that some posters PRE JUDGED the issue BEFORE he had started. NOW in the light of his work it is fair enough to critisize. Assuming he still has a future at Spurs I am on the fence atm. I wait to see what happens in the next two games.
I never like these type of comparisons as AVB was sacked when things where going wrong, Sherwood had to fix problems with the squad and setup, so If Avb stayed there is a greater chance his win rate would have decreased, Adebayor would never have returned to the form he has shown and more importantly we would have been bored to death!
If AVB had made it til February, his stats (this season and overall) might have gone south. He went because he obviously could not convince Levy that the subsequent performances would improve under his charge.
As Boss says, we were all in danger of being bored to death by the AVB 'style'. That's why I hope Sherwood succeeds because at least he wants to give us exciting football. What foreign manager will we get next with clever negative football? I am not watching football just to see a succession of ground out 1 nils, if that had been the case I would have been an Arsenal supporter.
Very true that we were bored to death watching AVB suffocating style (the first time I have agreed in Spurfs comments ) . I think Sherwood has semi abandoned his so called more entertaining football. The team at Chelsea was to stifle and at Norwich full of power and no finesse. His philosophy of attitude over ability is a future team of mundane Bentalabs . A central midfield of plodders like himself with no creative spark, the little game time of Eriksen (yes he has been average but he is the only one that can pass the ball) looks amateur by the standards of the day. We all want success but as many of us realised with AVB appointment (a bonker chairman who know's better then the football world ) we could see the writing on the wall and unfortunately it looks like the same old story. "Clever negative football" is not your bag, then we should have stayed on the Redknapp Roller coaster , at least it would have been a show-stopper.
Never had an issue with Redknapp's football just his mouth. In hindsight I might have put up with the mouth tried to ignore it and just enjoyed the football.
"Never had an issue with Redknapp's football just his mouth. In hindsight I might have put up with the mouth tried to ignore it and just enjoyed the football." I couldn't do that after the collapse of 2012 which cost the CL slot. That is the difference between Jose and Arry : you may dislike their gobbiness, but Joses' ability for on-pitch success honours the cheques his mouth is writing out.
Yes, reminds me of Ali. Everybody hated him at first as he was a loud mouth. But as he continually backed up his claims in the ring, he gradually became what he is today - the most respected, loved fighter of all time. I suppose everybody dislikes a loudmouth, but you have to have, at least, a grudging respect for those who live up to their boasts.
Thats because you're true lovers of football, its only people who are bitter and have another agenda that can't admit they miss the excitement of Redknapp, the type of people who never get over other aspects. After next season that will be another season of transition, chances are another coach that fails, the years will keep on clocking up until someone managers to get us back into the top four, but we may get there in time for the new stadium
I don't think it can be called prejudice to think Sherwood wasn't the right appointment. Even if we win the next two games (which we won't) I still don't want Sherwood as manager long term as I don't think we will be able to attract quality players.
That's what any decent manager does. Fergie always did it, Wenger does it, even Rodgers does it. It makes no sense to slate a player/s publicly. Sherwood has publicly slated his squad with important games to come, I get he might have done it as a way to motivate them but anyone over the age of 10 can see through that and to me it just shows how inept and how much he has to learn.
Some of the existing players seem to have that, " who the **** are you" look and attitude about them, already. A combination of Sherwood and his mouth, plus the current chaos at the club is not going to attract any player of any great ambition.
