I agree in principle on this. This is why I said "needs to be" The bit in bold is the operative term. We ended-up with Strachan out/Mowbray in because so many fuds wanted someone "Celtic-minded"
Jurgen Klopp for the hoops? A few years ago there were all sorts of rumours about us getting Bilic We actually came very close to appointing Gus Hiddink before Desmond managed to get O'Neill...
I like the fact the manager feels a loss the way I feel it, and celebrates a success the way I do. More than that, I really want him to be a success in life. Being a good coach and a "Celtic man" is the perfect combo plus, imagine if he stays to do 10
Davie Moyes will be available at the end of the season. Celtic man. Champions League experience. Used to working with no money. Burnt his boats in Engerland A total shoo-in. You heard it here first.
Would like to see Lambert but I doubt that will happen. I would guess we will go for the cheapest best option as is Celtic's wont, ergo Jackie Mac. Fatalist, cynic or realist? You decide.
the whole thing around getting someone from the so called " celtic family " has done us a disservice in the past, need to move away from that nonsense.
I'd go for Ally McCoist. He's a young, upcoming manager and has just won back to back promotions with the country's newest club. Has them playing great football and, rather than rely on paying over the top wages for foreign mercenaries and SPL has-beens, has a good record for developing homegrown talent. Terrific record in the cups too - unlike our dentally-challenged current manager, you don't see his sides slipping up against lower league teams. Obviously we'd have to break the bank to match his current wages, and give him a decent number of shares in the holding company, but surely the biscuit tin days have to be gone if we are to progress?
Too many people are a subtle blend of stupidity and fear. This means they need something familiar to comfort them, much like a chimp with a cuddly toy.
I say, therefore, that the arms with which a prince defends his state are either his own, or they are mercenaries, auxiliaries, or mixed. Mercenaries and auxiliaries are useless and dangerous; and if one holds his state based on these arms, he will stand neither firm nor safe; for they are disunited, ambitious and without discipline, unfaithful, valiant before friends, cowardly before enemies; they have neither the fear of God nor fidelity to men, and destruction is deferred only so long as the attack is; for in peace one is robbed by them, and in war by the enemy. The fact is, they have no other attraction or reason for keeping the field than a trifle of stipend, which is not sufficient to make them willing to die for you.
What does it matter? You could put me in charge and we'd win the SPL by at least 20 points. As for the CL, sometimes we'll do well, other times we'll be ****e. When you have a budget and squad like ours it comes down to luck more than managerial skill.
We have a good manager!!! yes, he is not one of the greats, yet! The thing about him being from "The Celtic family" is just a bonus to me. This constant debate about changing manager, and who we might be able to get, is really grinding my ****ing gears.
I quite like the fact that we have found a manager from within our present coaching staff and one whom is an ex-player. Not the Celtic family balls - just the fact that we have players like Lennon and Mjallby (sp) who have learnt from some pretty good managers they played under and brought it through to being able to handle a job like Celtic. Thing with Lennon for me is he's improved a lot already - and is still learning the trade. He's a novice in terms of coaching IMO as he didnt have many years to work on actual coaching. So there is still hope for me that he can get even better. With Strachan I saw a stubborness to change - Lennon is open to change. He's also started to calm the **** down and mellow a bit - that will help him. If he realises he is not 21 anymore and stops wearing that ridiculously tight track suit and smartens the **** up he could be an all time managerial great.
I think Strachan didn't feel he had the tools to change much about the side, his signing targets were all pulled late in the day in his last season when Rangers lost to Kaunas. He didn't get the targets he wanted in the winter window as we bidded very low for Stevie Fletcher. He had to go with what he had or bring in players he wasn't sure about. I think he would have changed our style quite a bit in his last season if he was given the opportunity to spend more.
Hmm , really ? We got the likes of Liam Brady, Lou Macari, Tony Mowbray ... and Martin O`Neill instead of Guus Hiddink .. because of this kind of pish
